Well, Iowa is in the books and the juggernaut known as Obama appears set to  role through New Hampshire and South Carolina as well. The South Carolina polling advantage for Barack is a little surprising, I’ll admit, given the Bob Jones phenomenon and the sheer number of Confederate flags adorning the back windows of pick-up trucks down in the Palmetto State. But unlike what Rove and Co. did to John McCain in 2000, I suppose it’s hard to smear Obama with the accusation that he’s fathered a black child when, in fact, he actually is black.

Speaking of which, a lot has been made in rightie circles of the fact that Obama is only “half black”, so why do we refer to him as black (as if that’s some kind of advantage when running for national office). Well, quite simply, it wasn’t too long ago when virtually every state in the Union had a law on the books stating that an individual with only a drop of black blood in his system was to be considered a negro. Didn’t want that race mixing to get out of hand. Can’t have it both ways, crackers: if it was good enough in 1935 to keep a brother in his place, it’s good enough in 2008 to give a brother a (dubious) advantage in the race for president.

On the Republican side, gold standard Christian Mike Huckabee is defying the party establishment by running away from the soul-less Mitt Romney in Iowa, not a surprise considering that 60% of the Iowa Republican caucus voters identify themselves as born-agains. Amazing, isn’t it, that the Christian litmus test for Republican candidates has become so accepted that it barely raises an eyebrow these days?

The New Yorker ( http://www.newyorker.com/talk/comment/2008/01/07/080107taco_talk_hertzberg) did a good little write-up on Huck and Mitt’s respective use of religion to try to seize the party’s brass ring, and Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone pretty much nailed the Huckabee phenom last month (http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/17324246/matt_taibbi_on_mike_huckabee_our_favorite_rightwing_nut_job), both pieces well worth your time.

Join us (me, specifically) on 1700 this afternoon where we’ll kick around the New Hampshire results and wonder out loud if Hillary’s campaign is dead in the water, and maybe even get into the oddly fascinating Roger Clemens story.

Keep on Rockin’ !

  1. Hey Stacy! Congratulations on the new gig. I tuned in yesterday on the drive home and except for the five million commercials it was great. I hope they will do some advertising for you. I only learned about it because I was on your mailing list and I hope that the rest of the world will learn about the show.

    Re: Hillary

I was planning to vote for Obama in the primary here to “send a message”. I had every intention of supporting Hillary in the general election. After Iowa I have changed my mind and intend to vote for Hillary in the primary.

I think that if she gets the nomination she has a chance of being elected (which in my opinion B. H. Obama does not). I can not stand the idea of four more years of Republican rule.

I am looking forward to the show this afternoon.

  2. I’m pretty sure the Republicans are praying for an Obama nomination.

  3. Stacy,

Your show on Tuesday was over the top. It seems each day it gets better. Welcome back Jorge, I can tell when you’re around.

Lots of callers and even a Stacy rant in the 3rd hour. But what pushed it over the top were the two ads (I guess you could call them that) one for Camp Bongwater and the other one for the kids camp. I was laughing so hard i was crying. I remember them from the old show and I loved em then. I look forward to the evening commute now.

I have been trying to listen to some of the other shows from your new station and you are right about ‘New York’ MYKE, he is low hanging fruit. It would be funny but except for the fact that I know people who think just like him. Dennis Miller wasn’t funny on Monday Night Football and he’s still not funny here. I can tolerate Mark Larson. He doesn’t seem too far right and I can agree with him on some things, but when he talks about supporting Huckleberry I question his sanity.

Congrats on making it through the first couple days, and long live free-thinking radio.

  4. Me again. I listened yesterday and I really liked your take on Hillary. I liked the way you talked about the sports coaches to the caller.

I listened to PBS in the morning and a caller who dislikes Hillary was somehow prososing that she was both “faking” and “out of control” at the same time. To those who heard the clip it should be obvious that she was neither. I think that she feels very strongly about what is right and by what is needed by this country at this time.

We can’t afford four more years of Republican rule.

Keep up the good work, Stacy! I hope we can get the word out about your new slot.

  5. Hey Stacy,
Thank God you’re back! Oh my goodness, I think we are the only two sane people in Alpine. It was so good to hear your voice on the airwaves again. I read that CityBeat article- pretty amusing stuff. It’s a bummer Scooter won’t come back. He gets as pissed off as I do. I was glad to see Hillary win last night, keeps the debate going and prevents the corporate media from imposing a decision on the Democrats- although I personally would like to see John Edwards get the nod. I completely agreed with one of the callers, LeAnn, when she made the point that the Republicans would much rather have Obama or Clinton to run against versus a good looking RFK-esque white man. And if we are looking for change (whic I certainly am), he is definitely the one to do it. As for Hilary crying, getting emotional whatever, I did not agree with Laura’s comments. The logic that because she is a female she should be devoid of all emotion is just stupid. The candidates are human and maybe I’m a sucker, but there was a ring of sincerity in it for me.

Anyways, congrats again. Can’t wait to tune in tonight!

PS Enough with the porn fairy tale crap. I listen to you on the way home and pick my three year old up from daycare. Had to turn the channel for a while…. LOL

  6. it’s not that i won’t come back, it’s that jesus lovin’ right winger mark larson doesn’t want me. i’m sure he hates everything about me, which actually makes me happy. like I said i am quite certain that i have been blacklisted by the “conservatives” who run the clear channel talk stations and now this tool larson. they are certainly free to hire who they want, but the collusion between the right wingers albert and larson to keep me out is clear. plus they apparently don’t or won’t pay anything even resembling a decent salary, so it is not worth it for me to be insulted by these cheap skates. if the right deal comes my way, i’m there, but it ain’t happening, and honestly i’m not pursuing anything.

  7. Hey Stacy–when do you think San Diego’s own Duncan Hunter is gonna pull the plug on his feeble attempt to secure the Republican presidential nomination? Just heard that Richardson is folding it up–and he seemed a lot more viable a candidate than old Duncan–Does Duncan really think he has a snowballs chance in hell of getting anywhere? He isn’t even MENTIONED any more in all the vote totals–except to maybe show he got 0%. Sure miss those Mikey rants about ol’Dungheap Hunter. Hope he has one handy when Duncan finally wises up and throws in the towel. So glad to hear you are back on San Diego radio again.

  8. Stacy, I used to be a longtime fan. Even when you went to Chicago. I just found you again. When did you become the local mouthpiece for the liberal democrats? You regularly use the term clowns in reference to the entire collection of Republican presidential wannabes. I agree they are clowns. But no bigger clowns than the Democrat presidential wannabes. You used to pull punches for no one. What happened? As it is, you are no more fun to listen to than Mark Larsen is. How the mighty have fallen.

  9. Hey Jack, rumor has it Duncan won’t fold up his tent until March, when he can still get back into the congressional race. Yes, people actually believe he will shove Jr. aside. The other part of this theory is that he decided to run for president to avoid the ethics committee…

    Hi Stacy, glad you’re back!

  10. Jimbo-
I love when people come up with the whole, Republicans are bad but the Dems are just as bad crap… I’m sorry have you been living in America the last 7 years?? Politicians as a whole have flaws, but there’s bad and really really really bad.

    Scooter-
You should come back just to spite them. Pro bono work for the good of the masses LOL Seriously though, that totally stinks. The Rant on Saturdays was awesome.

  13. Hooray for Scooter, great to hear him back on your show last night!!!! I would love it for Scooter to return to do his Saturday “rant” show, but doubt Larson, et. al., would ever allow it.

I presume Larson’s hoping that Stacy will grab some ratings by “mixing it up” a bit on the otherwise wacky right wing goon station!! But, down deep, you know that Larson despises Stacy, Scooter, and all of us who have half a brain.

To Larson, Albert, and their ilk, “freedom of speech” means having EVERY talk station in San Diego a right wing echo chamber (KOGO,KFMB, KCBQ, KPRZ, AM1700, did I miss any??), with ONE token show (Stacy) to the “liberals”.

  14. god damn, that was fun! it of course made me realize how much i miss being on radio and with stacy specifically. it is not right that i am not there and i am quite certain the smear campaign against me started by the cretins at clear channel is the primary reason. oh yeah, and larson for not doing his job by even bothering to interview me to find out for himself. idiots.

  15. Hey Scooter, why are you burning your bridges before you build them?
    :-)

    Comment by Virginia M — Friday, January 11, 2008 @ 3:33 pm

  16. those bridges were burnt not by me, but first by those at clear channel who fired me for no reason other than the vp of sales is a first class prick who simply decided that i was disposable, and then he told his puppets to do it. and second, the bridge to 1700 was also already burnt by lazy management who believed what the swine at clear channel told them. all i am doing is calling like it is. what, you think i’m going to now kiss the ass of those who wronged me in the first place, and those who now choose to hold a misplaced bias against me? uh, i don’t think so.

i’ve never been one to hold back anything - i didn’t do it on the rant, and i’m not doing it here. you’ll note that not one of the guilty has ever said a word about what happened, and that is because they know what they did and they know i’m right.

you need to understand that for the most part the radio business is run by people who wouldn’t know good radio if it walked up and introduced itself. why do you think most all of it sucks? this is what they’ve created and they want you to swallow it all and then say “thank you, may i have another?” i’m simply calling bullshit on what i know to be true. and if my honestly keeps me out of radio, then so be it.

what do they say, the truth shall set you free?

  17. Stacy–.Just yesterday, while having a prescription filled I found out that next month we are scheduled to lose our only downtown El Cajon– at Main & Magnolia–Albertsons supermarket/pharmacy–The pharmacy is scheduled to close Jan.31 with the store following suit on Feb. 14. This store was ALWAYS well patronized–you might have even shopped here yourself at one time– and as I stated is the ONLY major grocery store chain in downtown El Cajon-what are the chances, do you think, that the reasons they will give for closing this store will be due to concessions they had to make in the last grocery workers dispute that have suddenly caused this store to turn unprofitable? ( i.e. blame it on the unions etc)? Albertsons has another store–the name escapes me now–think it is called something FARMS–that is non-union. I am waiting to see if a grocery store under that particular name opens on the site of the soon to be closed Albertsons–or if once again, more vacant store frontage shows its ugly head in downtown El Cajon.–another blow to so called downtown redevelopment. I am also waiting to see if this upcoming scenario will be repeated throughout our county in another attempt to get back at the grocery worker’s union and have unionized workers replaced with non-union personnel. Hope to hear your comments on this on some future show
