I’ve delayed posting here for a few days because I was waiting for some momentous event that would propel me into a state of blogging ecstasy…something…anything…McCain’s head literally exploding on camera?….Chris Matthews french kissing Fred Thompson?….Huckabee appearing on the Today show to prepare popcorn-popper fried squirrel? Hillary having a “wardrobe malfunction”?
But alas. Nothing. Just stifled yawns and glassy eyes , and rote performances by a group of mediocrities that make Bill Clinton look like Thomas Jefferson. Maybe it’s that I’m secretly going to miss the little simian that’s currently occupying the White House. He’s provided me so much great material over the years. Or maybe it’s that I know the Bushies have dug this hole so deep I’ll be an old man when this country finally crawls back out.
God, please have this election tomorrow! Not to mix in too many metaphors, but this is reminding me more and more of American Idol. You know, how in the beginning of the season Idol is kind of amusing in a cruel way because the performances are laughable and acid-tongued Simon hasn’t yet grown bored with the whole charade? But after a few weeks, alas, when the culling phase is over, we’re left with just deadly earnest mediocrities singing bad Celine Dion songs, while a tone deaf America phones in their votes.
I look back fondly now to the M.L.K. jr. vs L.B.J. fiasco between Barack and Hillary. Little did I know that was going to be the highlight of the campaign and that for the next few month we’d be watching the cautious front runners from both parties lypsincing catch phrases. I’m not even sure what I’m expecting and maybe that’s just the problem. Over the last 2 election cycles I did have high expectations for something to happen: impeachment, the end of the Iraq occupation, war crime tribunals, the passage of some legislation that actually meant something to somebody, or, for that matter, just some colossal pratfall by this dunce administration, a real step-on-the-banana-peel-triple-back-flip-face-down-into-the-cow-pie moment that would at least draw a a good belly laugh. But instead we’re witnessing the slow petering out of the Bush era and an amateur hour primary campaign to replace him. I’ve said it before: this cretin is going to exit the ring after 4 years and nobody will have laid a glove on him. And his successor is doomed to failure just because of the monumental mess he’s gotten this country into.
Wake me when it’s over.
“And his successor is doomed to failure just because of the monumental mess he’s gotten this country into.”
Just like what George Bush senior stepped into when he took over from that glad-handing grinning idiot Reagan in ‘89!
I enjoyed a recent comment from Carville: “The worst job at the circus is cleaning up after the elephants.” The Democrats were able to make a little headway after getting their current minuscule lead in the Senate, but unless they get more, we’ll be seeing more of the same, I’m afraid.
The best thing to do now is to continue flogging away at the Repuglicans, to try to counter the right-wing noise machine to a little extent.
Let’s hear more about what a flip-floppin’ dissembling hack McCain is!

So now only two candidates are coming to California for the democratic party.
And two of the three repuglicans remaining are just a carbon copy of Bush.
I’m not stupid, deep in my heart I know that it really doesn’t matter who we elect, nothing will really change. Note how much things changed after the democrats gained the majority in BOTH houses last year.
Don’t even bother waking me up, ignorance is bliss….

Watching this election is like a car crash at times. You shouldn’t be watching but you don’t want to turn away either. I have to admit a part of me was pulling for Romney yesterday. He would probably be easier to defeat in the general than McCain with his plastic smile and car salesman sheister appearance. It’s a lot easier to vote against a corporate whore than a vet I guess. But it looks like unless Mitt pulls off a miracle we’re going to be up against McCain and his possibility of getting royally pissed and bombing an entire region of the world. And then singing a butchered version of a Beach Boys song about it. Brian Wilson ought to kick McCain’s ass.
So yeah funny movies, getting back to yesterday’s program. I have Kingpin and it is friggin funny indeed. Dumb and Dumber is an all time favorite and more recently Old School and Superbad are sinfully funny.

Stacy, You have offended all the simians who can read by comparing that horseshitonastick POTUS to them.
I am disgusted by the freaks who have set up their tents across the political landscape. I often wish I was unable to pay attention to this parade we call an election cycle. I long for the days prior to Ronald Reagan when I wasn’t too horrified by what was going on inside the Beltway - but when that damned Ronnie & Nancy Show came along I was thrust into the light of political outrage. I was told about trickle down economics and Star Wars took on a new, pus-filled suppurating, open wound-like meaning - (I’m pretty certain George Lucas never saw that one coming.)
I too will just pull the covers over my head and recoil into a fetal position and pray that the carnival just passes by.

John McCain makes me very nervous. I don’t really understand why the media is so enamored with him, although Bush was able to fool people, too, so why not McCain. If the Republican nominee is McCain, he’ll probably win. Hillary has too much baggage and is too easy a target. I am very sad to say that I agree with you, Stacy, that the racist faction in our country will not vote for Obama under any circumstances. There is hope for him to win, but it will take a huge “get out the vote” effort for the rest of the voters. As progressive as we claim to be, I am not sure that is true for the country as a whole. The pundits (who have been notoriously wrong in the past) say McCain is attractive to Independents. I’m one of them, and I don’t really think he’s all that great, but I pay more attention than most. If McCain gets a majority of independents, he’ll win.
On another topic, I read or heard somewhere that Edwards might be angling for Attorney General if a Democrat wins. What’s your take on that — good thing, bad thing, will he be able and willing to undo some of the recent damage?

Bush himeself said that its up to the next President to get us out of this mess. This guy really doesn’t care about the Joe Blow citizen. He only cares to fill the pockets of the people who helped him get into office.
I loved Stacy’s comment a few shows again (and I know he has said it a few times now) about how Bush didn’t really screw up by helping to raise gas prices. It was the goal all along. I had the same thoughts just a few days after the “shook and awe” took place. These guys NEVER wanted to lower gas prices, their main goal was to RAISE them.

The debate last night was hilarious. Although I can tell you I am completely sick of the whole how she voted debate on Iraq. I really would like to hear how both of them intend to get us out of that hellhole. Bottom line, Obama wasn’t in the senate and didn’t have to make that decision. I do like Obama, but now that Edwards is gone, I am supporting Hillary because I think she is the most likely to get elected in the general. The idea of President McCain make me seriously naseous. The whole ready on day one versus right on day one baloney is pretty comical. Clinton should have just shot back, “Let’s face it Barack, you won’t make it to day one.” I mean that may be harsh, but that’s what I think.
Like Olbermann insinuated the other night, you have to wonder why right wing publications like the New York Post are endorsing him… obviously they figure they can beat him. Hopefully, we can see through all that.

I don’t get to call while your on. At work at desk. But tell us whether you wear a helmet or not for you cycle. What about the profits made by Exxon? Do you change your oil every 3000 miles or do you follow the manufacturers instructions, 3,000, 5,000, 7,000 or whatever and why? I have seen people get attacked worse for changing their oil at greater mileage than people attack for politics. :o0
Glad to hear you back and workin.

Ann Coulter will vote for Hillary if McCain is the GOP nominee? Damn, they really, really hate him, don’t they?

OT
So the Giants finally get a touchdown in the Super Bowl against the undefeateds. First Troy or the other guy says, “The Giants are trying to turn it around!” Shit, its was turned around at that point. I can’t believe that with 8 minutes on the clock, 4th down and one lousy yard, they punt! So NE has 7′ 40″ to move the ball down the field for FG or TD. One lousy yard. I couldn’t stand to watch, but I think I just heard that NE punted. Never mind… gotta get back!
Comment by Flying Junior — Sunday, February 3, 2008 @ 6:35 pm
Well, it wasn’t a punt. I was going to say I predicted a NY loss just because of that lousy call. The coach is a pussy. Meow. Unbelievable.
Comment by Flying Junior — Sunday, February 3, 2008 @ 6:43 pm
So… ironically, now that it’s almost bedtime, they’re forced to go for it on the 4th.. with one yard again! Of course they make it. They could have won….
Comment by Flying Junior — Sunday, February 3, 2008 @ 6:52 pm
Right on! I’m so glad I was wrong! But it still was a shitty call. It could have cost them the game! Best Super Bowl in how long? Unless you just don’t like low-scoring games. Photo finish!

Brady! Talk about a hail Mary! Right on! What a game. That was a beautiful throw. I think it’s the longest pass attempt I have ever seen.

I absolutely disagree. If Gore had been elected in 2000 we absolutely not have started our war on Iraq. In fact, I think that if anybody else besides Bush had got in, we would not be in Iraq. Only Bush had a sick desire to get Saddam, and being a little bully and having Rumsfeld, Cheney, ad nauseum cheering him on — well, now here we are.
If Kerry had won in 2004 we’d be out by now. If anyone besides Bush — even any of the repuglican candidates in 2000 (who were they again?) — we would not be Iraq today.
It matters a lot who we elect — not only who President, but who has a big enough majority in Congress.
