I feel obligated to post something here just because there’s been so much activity on the comment board of late. Unfortunately, I’m too busy this week doing 2 radio programs a day to really have the time to put together anything in the witty and satirical style to which you have become accustomed. So here, I’ll just blurt something out: Free floating gender bias, per se, is not the reason Hillary is losing the race to Obama. Hillary’s default position seems to be victimhood and indeed this  does play into a societal view that female=weakness. America would probably have no problem with a strong woman occupying the White House. It clearly has a problem, however, electing a weak, victimized woman to that position.

If above comments in any way were offensive to the state of Israel or any of it’s citizens, we offer our deepest and most profound apologies.

  1. I find your description of the “incident” video taped by HSUS to as much fear mongering as anything from the Bush administration regarding terrorists. “Be afraid, be very afraid”. If there was such urgency in the “downer cow” situation, why did the HSUS SIT on the tape for four plus weeks? Where was their concern for the cruelty being inflicted on those cows for FOUR weeks? Why didn’t they say something immediately? As a matter of fact, the meat from those cows has already been consumed, there have been no outbreaks of illness, there was NO suggestion of contamination. HSUS does exactly what the Republican’s do. They make NON issues into issues to raise money for themselves. Some of their experts are in fact convicted arsonists with no background in animal issues other than domestic terrorism.

Before you start touting the veracity and compassion of HSUS do some research. You are as guilty of fear mongering as any Bushie who claims Hussein and bin Landin were working together.

  2. Stacy, I have been listening to you on Air America this week and am overjoyed to hear the positive response from the national listeners. It’s great to hear from such an array of viewpoints and it’s too bad our listenership (on 1700)is such a small base. Makes me proud to be a regular listener to you on our local show.

  3. Hi Stacy, I disagree that Hillary is playing the victim. The awful and distainful Chris Matthews put that into our heads and people are running with it. Hillary is a very strong, smart woman who, when she raises her voice, she’s accused of being shrill. When Obama (or any man) raises his voice, he’s seen as strong. It’s the way society continues to view the sexes. Any woman who is strong is a bitch. Any woman who is quiet and not pushy is seen as feminine. It’s not an overt sexism, it’s very subtle but its still there.

  5. I agree that Hillary’s problem is not ALL sexism. She does not have the charm thing down pat. She is not getting a fair deal from the media. I am sick of hearing about Hillary-Obama spats and that is all the media is interested in. I am interested more in the huge differences between Republicans and Democrats.

Bush has taken away a lot of opportunities for public input on the fate of our public lands. Four more years of Republican rule with their appointees to the BLM and other government agencies will not bode well for the fates of our National Parks and other public lands.

  7. Obesity Topic and rampant development

The other day Stacy was asking at what point along the continuum of a weight gain do you stop and say wait a minute! Am I getting to the point of no return! Do you do it at 220? At 300? Well I ask you all (and Stacy too) to ask yourself the same question about encroachment into our state and national parks and about the rate of development of ranch and farmlands.

At what point will people finally realize that too much has been lost and it is time to stop? Just like the 400 pound man there comes a time when too much has been built on and paved over and industrialized and there is no going back. There is nothing pristine left.

  8. Mrs. Clinton’s currant downfall is nothing to do with sexism but her insistence in keeping the old guard advisors she has around her.She has a hard time figuring out what mode of attack she is going to use that day and it’s usually wrong as the polls bare out. These advisors have been advising since Mondale in the 70’s and have not been keeping up with the times, hence the posission she’s in now. In keeping up with various topics and I’ll change one now. The other night watching www.sundancechannel.com Dockday series they featured the documentary “Deliver Us From Evil” and it only confirmed my lack of religiosity for all dogmatic religious cults we have in this world and the sooner we come to grips with the fact they are all fairy tail crutches and have no place in an enlighened society. If you haven’t seen this flick I recomend it highly. Folks, solving the rape of our virgin lands starts with cutting back or limiting the birth rate in this world and shooting all land developers.

  9. Many people don’t realize that land developers are not local and often not even Americans. They don’t care a fig about the long-term. They are building the slums of the future in an area where water supplies are extremely limited.

Santa Barbara never bought into the idea that we have swallowed whole which is that we absolutely must keep building an accomodating more and more people. Land values are the highest and quality of life is best where the developers have been reined in.

The supposed need for a huge airport at Miramar and this ugly powerline are based on the idea that development and increased population density are inevetable and they are NOT!

  10. Hillary Clinton is bright, articulate and would make a great president. It is certainly not the case that she has a “default position [that] seems to be victimhood” — that’s just the message being promulgated by the slanted main-steam-media.

People have to choose, after all, and many are moving to the Obama camp for a variety of reasons. That doesn’t mean that Hillary is not highly thought of and greatly respected.

  11. hmmmmdown cows the equal of Bushie fear/war mongering!? That alone was worth the price of admission….anyhow, apropo of nothing written here, I came across this great WFB column….could be about the last one he wrote. Its a great exemplar of how absolutely LUNATIC the wingnuts are…….WFB is a sane voice in the piece.

  13. Actually, I heard on Thom Hartman’s show that the HSUS sat on the tape for 6 weeks. The DA’s office asked them to hold off showing it until their investigation was complete. The HSUS is a wonderful group and I recommend them for donations if anyone has any extra cash laying around.

  14. Stacy, good to hear you on Air America in the “Lionel” slot. It’s nice to have someone good to hear in this time slot for a change … for now at least I don’t have to turn off the feed at 9AM (on the east coast) when the Lionel putz comes along.

  20. Much as I despise the Fishwrap, it does have some good stuff, like Arther Salm’s articles and his book section.

Also I like their comics pages, although the funniest cartoon they have is on their editorial page — the bell with the “ring of truth” legend — hilarious!

Anyway, I thought the 27-Feb-08 letters section had some terrific letters supporting Michelle Obama’s “really proud” statement. Check ‘em out here. (You’ll have to skip over the single right-wing-dimwit one in the bunch…)

  21. Good link to the piece of mercenaries. I can’t help but laugh at how even when Hillary is doing and saying the right thing it is still not good enough for her critics.

  22. Dittos, Goodguy. Inveterate newspaper reader- sub to fishwrap & LA Times (a REAL newspaper- blows the NYT & the WP out of the water…..no, dipfish, the moonie times dosnt make the cut) ANYHOW, that bunch of letters really went down with the coffee the other AM. Its one of the most important parts in my book. The sports section goes completely unread…….
