Brothers and Sisters.

First of all my humble appreciation to those of you trying to keep the tenor of this board above that of an elementary school playground taunt.

Now down to biz. (someone please cue up the old James Darrin classic “Goodbye Cruel World I’m off to Join the Circus”).

We have just witnessed, in just one short week, a microcosm of the Democratic Party in action. Those great avatars of “change” and “hope” have managed to plunge the discourse finally and forever into that of race and gender. No playing anymore. No hinting around. No wink wink nod nod. And, here’s the fun part: if you squint good and hard and stare right through the smoke of this recent train wreck, you can see silver haired, forked tongued John McCain striding in this direction, all flushed and grinning. And…Oh My God!!!…he’s wearing that damned flight suit!

Needless to say, I’m talking about Preacher Gate, the guilt-by-association toxic landfill that Obama now find himself in the middle of. The senator has rejected, repudiated, denounced, folded, spindled, and mutilated his preacher’s “inflammatory” utterances, and in so doing he has kept the story alive, while trying very hard to make it go away.

The only thing America, at least white America, would find more distasteful than a “national dialogue on Race” would be, let’s see, maybe a “national dialogue on HIV”? Us white folks don’t like to talk about race. Makes us feel uncomfortable. Brings out the liberal guilt…or the bigotry, depending on which side of the cultural divide you stand.

Of course, the real issue here is the paper thin support many reluctant “independents” were showing for Obama. I’m convinced many of them tried very hard to pretend he wasn’t really a black guy, sort of like Bill Cosby or Ed Bradley. They will be reminded during the general election campaign if Obama makes it that far. Forget Bill Cosby. He’ll be H. Rap Brown when the Swift Boaters get a hold of him.

Hmmmm. A hundred more years of War in the Middle East. Torture. Corporate Greed. Big Oil. Big Pharm. McCain….I suppose I could adjust.

  1. Personally I think Barrack Obama is getting three moves or more ahead of the two republicans Hillary and Mc KKKlan. He got out front on his spiritual leader issue (my self I read or heard nothing that was not true by his pastor) so when the right wing fascist Christian element goes after Obama then he will get to address their total fucking insanity they preach. I think Obama is very thoughtful and he is the one the other two republicans are adjusting to yet he is setting and raising the standards for the political fight to come.

    Good job President Barrack Obama!!!!!!!!

  2. Jessie; We can only wish, when only listening to the rational and sane dialogue it all makes sense. After listening to the caller yesterday,(you know) the one who had Kool Aid dripping from the corners of his mouth and was spouting insane utterings about Iraq weapons of mass destruction, etc.we come face to face with the knuckle draging citizen Stacy has talked about in the past and no amount of truth or facts will jar their pea brains to think otherwise. I see the Bush,s love ratings have, again gone in the toilet and were going to elect a clone or worse again? woops!, wev’e already done that once already, Stupidity usually gets what they get (or worse) WHO YA GONNA CALL?

  3. Obama’s speech was brilliant and to a certain extent, his preacher is correct. There is still a great divide between the races and I understand his anger & frustration. If people would just stop and take a look at what he’s saying and try to empathize, I’d bet Obama would be our next president. However, as exhibited by the American people over and over again, we’re just not that smart, i.e., we elected Bush, not once, but twice. (Of course, none of us here voted for him either time).

Maybe it’s time to stop focusing on the presidency and work on electing a democratic supermajority to congress. We can still get the troops out of Iraq that way, and make a lot of headway on all the other very important issues such as our economy, healthcare, veterans affairs, etc.

That’s exactly what we should be doing. That way no matter who the president is the agenda will be that of the people.

  5. Ummmm…not so fast. I voted against Gore , so you could say I voted for bush, first time. (i didnt think gore should be rewarded for sitting silently by that clinton creep, and the butchery we helped along in Central Europe. Plus. )
the Dims, as a party, dont represent me, (Maybe in Trumans day they did) having a majority of the little busybody creeps in the House and Senate AND the WH will be more of the same, only , um, different. So count me out of thinking the Dims will save us all.
    (new keyboard:yay!)
havin said that, the Mutt Compound is full of dread this manufactured preacher …..what? “horsecrap” will do-coupled to the Hilbats continuing to lower the debate might well mean the Hilbat is the nom. Which means McC is the prez……which means the torture, the war, and the profiteering will roll on, as the once interesting USA becomes just another bananarepublican Tommorrowland…..

  7. I’m not a joiner, never have been and never will be in the 21st century, only exceptions were Joining the Navy to keep out of the grunt war in Korea town and the Boy Scouts in grammer school, thats it! so the idea of joining the dems to save our rights is ludicrous. To break this chain of theavery is going to take a third or even fourth party to get an iron grip on this government to rid us of this military industrial complex. Some say to take over the dem party from the ground up and re-make it, could be an idea but I see corruption so intrenched in this party, starting from scratch seems a better idea. HOW? I’m not that smart. The statement: (becomes just another banana republic) Holy Shit, wev’e been one for he last seven and a half years.

I rest my case…….and Knife is correct. I toy with the notion the Dims can be taken over, but its a long shot. More likely is they can be cowed into doing the right thing, now & then. More viable parties are always welcome. The narrower the focus, the smaller the base. And you have to overcome most peoples unwilingness to participate, no more crazy than being unwilling to go touristing in a crack house…..given a of of history, and the fact huge efforts are made to discourage people from participating.

  9. Obama has been shown now to be just another racist. I sure don’t want anyone to be President that would look to anyone like Wright for advise. He clearly likes his racist preacher more than he likes his country. not for me.

    Comment by Bruce — Thursday, March 20, 2008 @ 2:32 pm

  10. George Washington didn’t want a party system at all. He was smart. But we have a two-party system and we have to live with it. I don’t see any other party rising up, so we might as well make the best of what we’ve got and I truly believe that there are more good dems out here in the world than bad or corrupt ones. I refuse to believe that our elected officials go to work and say, “how can I scam the American people today?” I think they go to work with the intent of doing a good job. No one wants to believe their own work is bad or that they as people are bad, or selfish, or corrupt. (Even George Bush can’t face facts that he’s the worst president ever). That being said, in every profession there is good and bad. Don’t lump all politicians into the corrupt category. And, if you don’t like what’s going on, join us (whether you’re a joiner or not) help to change things to the way you’d like.

BTW, a Gallup poll has Hillary significantly ahead of Obama today, 49 percent to 42 percent, + or - 3. I don’t care what you guys think about Hillary, she’s still my girl.

    Comment by Lorelei — Thursday, March 20, 2008 @ 2:40 pm

  11. that is a pretty naive scene you painted. Most politicians go into office with some money and come out rich. how do you think that happens. they are all on the take in some form or another. The only way to stop it is to make them all disclose their tax returns and financial statements every year. I don’t think that all of our politicians are so civic minded that they all want to stay in public office forever once they get in the first time. they just keep going from one office to another and if they get termed out, they run for another office. They don’t want to lower their standard of living by taking a real job in the private sector. they may have to go back to work then as well.

    Comment by Bruce — Thursday, March 20, 2008 @ 3:00 pm

  12. It’s rich how the right-wing haters are bleating about that big meany, Rev. Wright, and all the real mean things he said that make right-wingers start to cry.

Meanwhile, the righties love to spew hateful stuff all the time. There’s a song that’s been sung at Republican conventions with really disgraceful lyrics about America — Thanks to Southern Beale for the post about it: “Where was the outrage? What talking heads, columnists, pundits, newscasters have mentioned this as the Obama-Rev. Wright issue has hit the headlines?”

Jeez, no we dont. We had a King once, too- didnt live with that. And GAWD ordains Kings, or so we are told. theres nothing, zip, nada in the organization of this country that sez we have to settle for Tweedledumb or Tweedledumber. And I think waaaay to many pols wake up every morning and say:” How can I advance the power of my Party.” A VERY interesting group, with a track record of achievement, which is distinctly “antiparty” is Downsize DC.org. Check out their positions, from the War (opposed it way before we launched) to Congress passing bills it never reads, I get a few messages from them a week, and very rarely do I think they are off the mark. NOTHING in the Dim platform argues they will undo the Cheney power grabs, the wars, or hold to account individuals who have committed gave crimes here & abroad. Not a damn thing. I hold no illusions. I dont think illusions make for sound politics…..

  19. It’s over, folks. Not even a Jesus/Buddha/name your saint can save this country. Get used to it. Leave, if you can, otherwise plant a garden. Share that potential food and land with someone not afraid to use a gun against marauders. Get a compostable toilet for when the water supply is shut off. Fashion a solar oven, or buy one if you have the money, and learn to freakin deal with it. Hell, if you have a dead car, you can cook pizza in it during hot weather. Get some chickens (build a chicken tractor–google it–to keep them safe) and graze the land. Save all your roof-runoff rainwater. Compost. Find new ways to reuse stuff that would otherwise go in your recycle bin.

Look, pretend it’s a camping trip. Soon, it will be more than that!

Of all the candidates, Obama is the least offensive, but he’ll either be gunned down or otherwise whacked out. We are in for the big time END OF AMERICA (all empires fall). Get fuckin used to it. In the meantime, buy stocks of food you eat, and save water. Learn self-sufficiency skills.

And don’t give me a hard time for asking/pleading that you prepare. For all I know, the worst that will happen this year is an earthquake. Our evil government has showed us they’d rather watch us die, via Katrina, in the dirty water than drop fresh water. The U.S. government is evil, no doubt about it.

I hate the government. The only people that love it are the bigass corporations–socialism for the corporations, fascism for the people. That sucks!

Recall, the prez said we are in an ownership society–i.e., unless you own it, you are shit out of luck. The good side is that IF there is a higher level of anything, we who believe will be there.

Interview with James Dobson and Ted Bundy

    http://www.pureintimacy.org/gr/intimacy/understanding/a0000082.cfm

James C. Dobson: It is about 2:30 in the afternoon. You are scheduled to be executed tomorrow morning at 7:00, if you don’t receive another stay. What is going through your mind? What thoughts have you had in these last few days?

Ted Bundy wanted to tell the world about pornography
What was it that Ted Bundy was so anxious to say? He felt he owed it to society to warn of the dangers of hard-core pornography and to explain how it had led him to murder so many innocent women and girls. With tears in his eyes, he described the monster that took possession of him when he had been drinking. His craze to kill was always inflamed by violent pornography. Quoted below is an edited transcript of the conversation that occurred just seventeen hours before Ted was led to the electric chair.

JCD: There is tremendous cynicism about you on the outside, I suppose, for good reason. I’m not sure there’s anything you could say that people would believe, yet you told me (and I have heard this through our mutual friend, John Tanner) that you have accepted the forgiveness of Jesus Christ and are a follower and believer in Him. Do you draw strength from that as you approach these final hours?

Ted: I do. I can’t say that being in the Valley of the Shadow of Death is something I’ve become all that accustomed to, and that I’m strong and nothing’s bothering me. It’s no fun. It gets kind of lonely, yet I have to remind myself that every one of us will go through this someday in one way or another.

    JCD: It’s appointed unto man.

Ted: Countless millions who have walked this earth before us have gone through this, so this is just an experience we all share.

Ted Bundy was executed at 7:15 am the day after this conversation was recorded.

THE PSYCHOPATH - The Mask of Sanity

Special Research Project of the Quantum Future School

    http://www.cassiopaea.com/cassiopaea/psychopath.htm

If you are born at the right time, with some access to family fortune, and you have a special talent for whipping up other people’s hatred and sense of deprivation, you can arrange to kill large numbers of unsuspecting people. With enough money, you can accomplish this from far away, and you can sit back safely and watch in satisfaction. […]

Crazy and frightening - and real, in about 4 percent of the population….

The prevalence rate for anorexic eating disorders is estimated a 3.43 percent, deemed to be nearly epidemic, and yet this figure is a fraction lower than the rate for antisocial personality. The high-profile disorders classed as schizophrenia occur in only about 1 percent of [the population] - a mere quarter of the rate of antisocial personality - and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that the rate of colon cancer in the United States, considered “alarmingly high,” is about 40 per 100,000 - one hundred times lower than the rate of antisocial personality.

The high incidence of sociopathy in human society has a profound effect on the rest of us who must live on this planet, too, even those of us who have not been clinically traumatized. The individuals who constitute this 4 percent drain our relationships, our bank accounts, our accomplishments, our self-esteem, our very peace on earth.

Yet surprisingly, many people know nothing about this disorder, or if they do, they think only in terms of violent psychopathy - murderers, serial killers, mass murderers - people who have conspicuously broken the law many times over, and who, if caught, will be imprisoned, maybe even put to death by our legal system.

We are not commonly aware of, nor do we usually identify, the larger number of nonviolent sociopaths among us, people who often are not blatant lawbreakers, and against whom our formal legal system provides little defense.

Most of us would not imagine any correspondence between conceiving an ethnic genocide and, say, guiltlessly lying to one’s boss about a coworker. But the psychological correspondence is not only there; it is chilling. Simple and profound, the link is the absence of the inner mechanism that beats up on us, emotionally speaking, when we make a choice we view as immoral, unethical, neglectful, or selfish.

Most of us feel mildly guilty if we eat the last piece of cake in the kitchen, let alone what we would feel if we intentionally and methodically set about to hurt another person.

  31. Virginia, theres a lot to the point of the 3 candidates, the one who will least likely extract our troops from this criminal enterprize is HRC- she wont want to appear “weak”, her foriegn policy “expertise” - fabulated at every turn- comes from her husband, Bill “the troops will be home by xmas” Clinton. Creator of Camp Bondsteel, the largest US military base outside of the US, in Kosovo. Then theres the open spigot og Blackhawk helicoptes & cluster bombs for Israel, and no more effort to halt the “settlements” than Bush & the neonuts. I mean, since she has so much experience and all. hangin around Bill.
Health “care”- not unless insurance companies profit off every bandaid. Central America/Cuba? Hmmmmmm- I suggest you look at the record there. (Since her claim to expertise revolves totally around her husband) Former Soviet Union? Bill left a clear trail of funding murderous despots. “Secret” wars? Again, look at thier history turning Arkandas into a contra arms dump. And she assume ALL the powers Cheney accrued for the Executive & relinquish none.
What, exactly, is the difference? Plumbing? Rhetoric?? cosmetics?
She simply has no moral compass, no sense of right, wrong, fiasco, or horror.
Ambition aone does not qualify one for the job. As much as I dislike Nita Lowery’s politics, she at least actually lived & worked, in the trenches, in NYC. She was more than qualified to run for that Snate seat, but Dim apparatchiks all across the country, for reasons I cant fathom, kicked Nita to the curb to install this wandering powermonger…….it might well be why the Dims arent riding vast groundswell of popularity…..no, it cant be THEIR actions, it must be a vast conspiracy……..
Lets keep it friendly, if possible.

McC is more likely to act on Iraq & Afghanistan. I say “more likely”, thats all. Obama is more likely still, & push

Did you all catch Bill Moyer’s Journal Friday, if not you can link on it at crooksandliars.com. I still have the sniffels from the viewing (powerfull Stuff). Then we compound this Easter day with the knowledge we have unmercifully sacrificed 4000 of our young men. While reading the NYT political cartoons, came on the best, I urge you to pull that one up also. It only seems yesterday when I got off my as and participated in a protest march in front of Camp Pendelton as the shrub was arriving to get his photo opp. I remember this was one of the first sponcered by VFP and we were able to have all the dead on 3 bed sheets, try that now. Being interviewed by FBI posing as news people was real obvious.I remember the young grunts driving by and giving the finger and surprisingly, a few honks. Hell, I think this was three years ago—-Anything Changed?

I hate to break this to you, but that “butchery in Central Europe” you refer to started a year or so before Clinton got into office.
And for right-wingers like yourself to whine about that is the height of hypocrisy (but so not surprising, given the other bile you spew)
Tell me: Does the butchery that Bush, Cheney and their enablers in government and the press, created in Iraq bother you much?
    No, didn’t think so.

  55. Massive air & artillery strikes on cities, towns, and villages equals butchery where I come from. If its just the cost of doing business where YOU come from…..well, I dont come from where you come from. And NEVER the twain shall meet.
you probably think Maddy Albright is quite the statesman……..
I dont object to the US assisting people under savage attack. However, if you, uh, do a little research, you’ll find things went off the rails in Kosovo after we started bombing, we had airstrikes called on locations at the behest of paid informants-great way to settle scores, that- and US troops were, once again, fighting to install a major traffiking mafia in power. Do YOU hav any idea at all what Kosovo is actually like? I dont. Id say its no fountain of liberty, tho. this use of indiscriminate airpower samesame Afghanistan, and Viet Nam, for that matter, and we used massive aerial assaults against urban centers in former Yugoslavia. You start posturing about “surgical strikes” and you just further betray your ignorance, go ahead, please be my guest. We dropped about every bridge that spans the Danube, and, like when Clinton bombed the SOLE production facility for antibiotics in Africa (sneeringly dismissed as the “aspirin factory” by various chickenhawks AND Clinton apologists) we just……walked away.

Once again, the Balkan Civil War started BEFORE Clinton got into office. Before, before, before. Yes, it was a tragedy, and yes, we didn’t act fast enough. Kosovo is a whole other subject. (So you were opposed to that, but apparently not the terror Milosevich inflicted on that region? Quite frankly, I really have no idea what the hell your point is.)
Where is your outrage over Bush’s dithering in Sudan? And when you condemn what this corrupt administration has done in Iraq, I might have some respect for what you say.
And WHERE did I mention surgical strikes in my post? One more thing sir: I’m an American just like you, thank you very much. Just because I don’t share your myopic views doesn’t make me a maroon.

Maddy said, on several occaisions, it was “worth it”- no doubt to you, also. Like Ive said before: the twain wont meet. You are a thug with a Dem button, nothing more.
Hmmm. Now Im supposed to jump thru some nitwit hoop you hold up- Im to show outrage about Bush/Sudan, at your command. Keep holdin the hoop, kid. As things stand now, theres a AfUnion force there with zero comm, transport, or UN mandate to do much of anything. 64. mutt’s posts are 90% Dem bashing, which is why someone coming in would naturally think he’s just another Righty creep.

Of course, on Stacy Taylor’s site, a lot of us are “Libruls”, so independents and iconoclasts like Stacy and mutt are going to gravitate to lots of Dem bashing in response.

Put independents on a site like the one Lyin’ Larson (the morning 1700 guy) has and I’d expect to see 90% Repug bashing.

Anyway, Gore is not a nitwit. He’s one of the good guys, smart as hell, and chock full of integrity. The fact that America (or was it the Supreme Court) put Bush in power in 2000 instead of Gore shall be a source of eternal shame for us all. It certainly is a source of extreme frustration for me.

    Comment by goodguy — Tuesday, March 25, 2008 @ 9:27 am

  65. It’s personal for me despite the fact that only one acquaintance has been killed in Iraq. I remember when the Iraq invasion first started. My friend’s brother-in-law was in a helicopter that crashed. He was one of the first 5 or 6 marines killed and he’s not counted in the 4000 because they weren’t in combat when the crash happened. Meanwhile, I was working in a public agency where at least half of the employees were fundy christians and they were so happy we were “getting the terrorists.” It was so f**king bizarre that they were so ignorant. I received an e-mail from a nice church-going gal with a picture of George looking compassionately at a little girl whose father had died in the twin towers. It included a message about the terrorists in Iraq and what a great guy George Bush is. None of the fundy freaks could comprehend the real reasons we were in Iraq as opposed to Afghanistan. One person I talked to didn’t know that they were actually two different countries. I suspect that’s still the case for many of them. Can you imagine the frustration?

Anyhow, every Sunday a group of us are out on the street corner protesting the war, the Bush admin., torture, etc. If you would like to join us, we meet from noon to 1 p.m. on the corner in front of Trader Joes in La Mesa. We get all walks of life and everyone’s welcome. There are other protests around town, but I’m not sure where they meet. I won’t be able to go this weekend, but you all should go. It’s fun counting the number of middle fingers we get!

    Comment by Lorelei — Tuesday, March 25, 2008 @ 9:50 am

  66. Standing on the corner counting fingers isn’t going to help anyone.

How about showing up at the naval hospital and reading to some of the kids who can’t see anymore, or helping a guy whose fingers (or arms) were blown off write a letter home. Maybe just bring flowers and a smile to some, whose families can’t afford to come visit him while he recuperates.

Mutt makes a difference, so can you.

The cost of war is hundreds of thousands of victims.

    ….and Cheney says “So?”

    Comment by nobody special — Tuesday, March 25, 2008 @ 10:09 am

  67. I disagree. Standing on the corner makes people think and in turn sways popular opinion and hopefully down the line, will stop the war. But you have excellent ideas. I’ve been so focused on stopping the war, letter writing and protesting that I haven’t thought about making a difference that way. Is there an organization who coordinates meetings or do you just drop in?

Thank you nobody special, and too bad Cheney’s pacemaker won’t let him die.

And sitting alongside someone directly responsible for such crimes, dutifully proclaiming the perps greatness, qualifies for, at the very best, “nitwit” in my book……but lets let it drop for now. Or not. Personally, I see nothing in Gores record to impress. Thats just me, perhaps my standards are too high. I dont think Ill lower them, however to suit party apparatchiks here.
and, yes: noon, Trader Joes. Will you be wearing fishnets?? i look like Clark Gable…….i guess I already got peacenik cooties, so what the hell.
i dare not enter a VA hospital, less whatever peaceful sentiments I have left go up in smoke altogether. Been there………damn tough row to hoe, but I highly recommend it.
I have very modest hopes Senator Obama may, perhaps, possibly, do good in the office. Lets test the waters: is this Dim, er, Dem bashing? Or is only the gushing sort of crap gore used to heap on the excreble Bill good enough to pass muster?
    jesus.

  70. heck, Im sure theres things we’ll never agree on. why, Im sure there isnt a person on the planet who sees things my way on every subject, but life isnt a game of Family Fued where (i think) the point of the exercise was to give the answers given by the most number of random chosen individuals. Never saw that as a strong point for anyone. the fact that any criticism of the, uh, Dems, given thier ugly record- I say again, this isnt the Dem party of Truman, much less Will Rodgers- elicits such a cockamamie response…..well, what do you all expect?
The road to Hell & all that. AndI wont even accord the Dems “good intentions” (in honor of you being a Official Delegate, I wont use “dims” anymore….well, not here) in a lot of the horror they have perpetrated on the county & the planet.
But, certainly, we have a very deep divide over this character- youll note the article comes from the far Right fringe hate sheet, the Village Voice http://blogs.villagevoice.com/bushbeat/archives/2008/03/hillary_ran_fro.php

    “The eyes tell all.
The Stare. History’s dirty little secret. The victor’s too-deep-even-for-tweezers thorn. The bat signal of the voiceless. The American G.I. received the same stare forty years ago in rice paddies while hunting down Charlie. Billy Yank felt it on his back while he Marched to the Sea with Sherman, saving our nation from itself. Redcoat Sally came to understand it in a Boston town square, while a brave new world teetered on Revolution. Hell, Jesus’ family – if not the Master Messiah himself – unleashed it at more than a few Roman Legionnaires, I’m sure. It’s the same look any foreign power – or more accurately, the flexed bicep of said foreign power, the soldier – gets when a majority of the local populace feels that they’ve overstayed their welcome, if such a welcome ever existed in the first place.”

Unfortunately America is full of nitwits like him who will be fooled, and of righty imbeciles who will be all for it.

mutt - thanks for the “Stare” post — “…Billy Yank felt it on his back while he Marched to the Sea with Sherman…” He also felt it during reconstruction, which reminds me in a lot of ways of what our troops are dealing right now in Iraq…

    Comment by goodguy — Thursday, March 27, 2008 @ 1:22 pm

  93. yeah…..but didnt they actually BUILD things during Reconstruction? and speak the lingo ? (more or less) ….
Jeez, more grownups chasin a ball around when Stacy is on a friggin streak…well, imagine the howls if people missed the excreble Miller groveling to that loon North.
Is he still wanted for major drug traffiking & multiple counts of homicide in Costa Rica? Or were the indictment eventually bought off? Then theres the Stark….another bloodletting North played a role in, if indirectly. many of you were probably too young to remember the Stark. It was during the Iraq-Iran War, when we were arming both sides. Saddam, on our payroll & in our hearts for years by then, was unaware to the double game. Enter North, who delivers still unknown numbers of Hawk missile batteries to Israel- for free- to the Israelis- y’all paid for them- & THEY in turn give thier older Hawk batteries to Iran, which puts them on Kharg Island, & starts taking a toll on Iraqi jets shooing up Iranian tankers around there. Now, depending on which story you but (i buy #2, havin read a lot about it, 20 odd yrs ago) the Iraqi pilots started hunting much further afield as the North /Reagan supplied Hawks made that end of the Gulf too hot for them, came upon the destroyer Stark, & put several missiles into it at night, claiming they didnt recognize it. (Hilarious digression- when word the Iraqis did serious damage to a US warship, the wingnuts demanded revenge. It took a while for the Reagan Wingnut Admin to explain the Iraqis & Saddam was our true blue “friend” and it was an “accident”…and 80 odd US Sailors ended up dead (it seems Alcoa wasnt getting a big enough slice of “Defense” welfare & insisted on getting some contracts or no more campaign “contributions” so the Navy outfitted some destroyers with aluminum armor & superstructure, the missiles ignited fires, the aluminum acted like aluminum- think how quick a Al. skillet transmits heat- and a LOT of guys died, either burned or from the toxic gasses burning off the paint far from the actual fires. But I digress.)
Story #2 is when the news broke the US was selling sat photos of Iraqi troop deployments- think WWI here- to Iran, and selling DOCTORED photos of Iranian troop deployments to Iraq, which had the Iraqi army attacking what they thought were weak points in the line when actually they were walking into a serious ambushes, resulting in mass WWI style casualties, well, Saddam blew his top, gave the order & the Stark caught the quid pro quo. It happened 2 wks after the double dealing was revealed in the European press; then, like now, the press US was an administration lapdog by and large.
Anyway, Schultz was questioned about this at a euro press conference, and made a joke about it. Sorta like the Chimp with “bring it on”. And them what calls the shots once again stays well out of the line of fire…..
Well, there you go, Stacy got yanked & Im editorialiing…..
Yes, hate to see wingnut radio loose any time over kids games…..

  95. As a proud Agnostic I could really not care any less about preachers and the ridiculous things some of them say if I tried. That being said I am optimistic about Barack beating John McCain and here’s why. With Obama and Clinton in their deathmatch you would think a republican nominee left on his own would soar if nothing else by sheer virtue of looking “presidential”. Yet what has McCain done thus far? Mr. Foreign Policy and National Defense has made an ass of himself with his al qaeda Iran comment and stuttered and stumbled his way through an attempted economic speach which offered nothing. Can you imagine this angry old man going toe-to-toe with Obama in an actual debate? I for one can’t wait. Barack will eat him alive and talk circles around him, I almost feel sorry for McCain, does he know what he’s up against? We’ve seen this before. Clinton versus Dole anyone? Sure there will be those that vote for McCain, old vets who identify with him and those who want to bomb everyone who looks at us funny. I am still optimistic that this time maybe, just maybe, common sense will prevail…

  97. “Kathleen, when you say he is “finally on” do you mean on the radio? The internet streaming is not working. I wonder what could be wrong?
    Comment by Virginia M — Friday, March 21, 2008 @ 3:59 pm”

Sorry, Virginia, I didn’t get back in time to respond. Yes, it was on the radio–the stream was down for a while (like all during Stacy’s show, IIRC.)

This reminds me, does anyone have the schedule for when Stacy will be preempted by sports? I caught a half hour of him yesterday, rushed off to the store and came back to sports! YUCK! Crap! It looks like he’s preempted again, today.

    Nice poem, Jesse, thanks :)

“I am sure this will be taken off as soon as that phony, Stacy, sees it. he used to be a conservative, even filling in for Dennis Prager. Comment by Bruce — Wednesday, March 26, 2008 @ 4:33 pm”

Bruce, Stacy has always been mostly independent and he is NO phony, never has been. Only the braindead could possibly support what the neocons try to pass as conservative these days. Heil Hitler much? Today’s conservative means conserving the wealthy from taxes (while sticking it to the poor and middle class), conserving the corporations from regulation (while sticking it to small businesses who can’t afford a P.O. Box in the Cayman Islands), conserving wildlands for corporations to pillage (instead of allowing local communities to grow healthy food thereon or allowing wildlife to keep things in balance), conserving the lives of WASPS (while trying to blame all Amerika’s ills on brown people, or on people who don’t approve of priestly pedophiles–faux xians love pedophilia), and conserving power for themselves and their cretin-like offspring. Greedy sons of bitches, you’ll get yours when there is no food on earth. Do you rape your children for amusement/to teach them who’s boss? That Stacy even lets asshats like you and finger post is proof positive that he’s no phony, and not scared of your bullshit. How much is Rush paying you to try to disrupt this forum? Yeah, good way to make a “living”: attack the weak to make yourself feel good. Amerikans deserve to be starved to death, poisoned to death, if you are the average merkin lol. Look it up, fool.

And, do you understand critical thinking skills? I thought not. When new information comes in, brains make adjustments. It’s possible that once upon a time Stacy felt one way, and upon changing circumstances, he took on new ideas. Remember when a Republican was for conservation of resources? Of course you don’t. You’re a dumbass who A) never studied history and/or B) never paid attention. Even the most evil Nixon wanted environmental protection; compared to the Bush PNAC group, Nixon is a saint. Obviously, conservatives require only an asshole to deem one a saint. I’m no fan of so-called “Democrats” either; both parties are now totally run by the corporations–self-same corps who feed us downwer corpses, kill microbiologists who could give us medicines to combat diseases, and take guns to our heads during disasters instead of handing out water. Oh, and just wait until all the water is poisoned. Good luck! Knock on the king’s door for some of that and see how far you get!

Stacy, PLEASE, how can we get the “schedule”? I plan my schedule to be at the puter (can’t get the station on my walkman at all, and very static-ly on home radios) for your shows, and am devastated to miss you.

For other fans of progressive radio, Jeff Farias (http://www.1480kphx.com/DynamoPages.php?PID=22) is good when Stacy is preempted.

Have a good weekend, everyone. We could be bombing Iran by next weekend, and buhbye “internets” not to mention West Coast cities. Just sayin’, get some rice, beans, water, matches, candles–worst that happens? You have a little stash for the coming earthquake, cheaper than it will ever be again ….

You’re right, of course. History may not repeat itself — but it often rhymes.

I found this about some parallels between our post-”mission accomplished” period in Iraq, and reconstruction.

it shows up in my mailbox monthly or so.
So, the multi billion $ police force is deserting to the Mahdi Army, the multi billion $ Iraqi Army is hanging way back, & American youth is taking sides in a civil war, on the side of the Iranian leaning Dawa party, the Badr Brigades, & the Supreme Islaamic Council. Not that I got a problem with Iranian “influence”, I cant help but note they share a long common border. We, however, share nothing…….
the supporters of this disaster keep getting more & more unhinged. It WOULD be fun to watch, but for the blood…..
