Ok. Frequent contibutor and Veteran’s Affairs Editor “Mutt” suggests I intrude here with some insane ramblings to the purpose of stirring the pot which I believe loosely translate to “Puleeeeze, let’s give Hillary/Obama a break!” This causes me great discomfort because I must confront the idea of writing about something not that bores the crap out of me (easy to write about! So many possibilities!), but that actually interests me (hard! So few possibilities.) Even the Jazz-Lakers game with which my attention is momentarily shared reminds me slightly of Hillary/Obama: let’s cut through this geek stuff and get to the finals (Pistons-Lakers/ McCain-Obama). It’s only the unimaginative sports fan or partisan fanatic who still actually cares about these quarter-final matchups in the NBA or about the media-driven denoument of the primary process. So in that spirit, how ’bout a fast paced “3 dot” column, the favorite cop-out of print columnists everywhere who can’t think of any single subject worth writing an entire piece about?

For example, did you know there existed a new acronym classification defining a generational demographic? It’s called “nuppie” and I believe that stand for Nomadic Urban Professional, educated entrepeneurs who can’t afford rent or mortgages, or who choose not to pay them, and are astute enough to take advantage of mobile technology. There’s an array of miniaturized cyber products at our disposal…WiFi, laptops, Mp3 players, BlackBerries, etc…to allow the intrepid information trader to ride fast and hard. And since “info-tainment” is the U.S.’s #1 product, apparently a whole new set of dockers-wearing Kerouac’s and Cassidy’s are prowling today’s high tech hobo jungles making a buck or two off their wits and their cyber skills. Beats timing your freight train hopping to the Spokane apple harvest I suppose, although not nearly as romantic. There’s even a new furniture pod that appeals to this new class of nomads (http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/02/casulo_an_entir.php). A few years back, I did a morning drive radio show in Portland, Oregon for 6 months without ever leaving Alpine nor having ever set foot in Portland. And I thought that was pretty cool. But now the sky’s the limit. Hit the road with your Airstream, your Casulo, and your BlackBerry and make a hundred grand selling nutritional supplements or day trading on-line. Roatan ( http://www.roatanonline.com/) here I come…

Meanwhile back on earth, check out the tough love comments here (http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20080507-1508-extradition.html) concerning the Carmel Valley mother heading back to Michigan complete her sentence on drug trafficking charges of 34 years ago. LeFevre is the poster child for the ridiculousness of drug criminalization and the concept of rehabilitation. It’s clear that life in the ‘burbs on the lamb offers far greater chances for redemption than 10-20 inside our squalid Prison Industrial Complex…

Meanwhile, Reason magazine offers a detailed indictment (  http://www.reason.com/news/show/125438.html ) of the dishonesty of the War on Terror and it’s funding. Look, who really belongs in prison, LeFevre of Bush?…

Finally, if the Nuppie lifestyle really appeals to you (as it does me), maybe you can help pad these statistics (http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-fi-walkaway11-2008may11,0,7636846.story ). Is there a sadder testimonial to this gas guzzling, McMansion, consumer driven aylum we live in than this???

See you in Spokane in September….

Nothin new in livin in a truck, tho- did it forever, it seems. garages, basements (cot near the furnace & Vt winters dont bother) and even a closet Ive called home, to no ill effect. but I do remember pullin in my garage home one 3am, and rollin off the bike into my bunk….next am I woke up, laid there, thinkin: if I was 22, this would be HEAVEN……but I was at least 32, and i figured maybe i should have an actual apartment…….
Things have gotten a lot harder- much more time is needed to get enough $ to pay rent. When I got back from overseas, in the end of the 60’s & early 70’s, rent, food, everyhing was cheap & available. That left time to live….there was a middle class & prosperity, then. Thom Hartman, who usta have a show on 1360, had an interesting thesis: the peak of middle class….surplus? came in the 1760s-80s, then again starting in the late 50’s, on thru til Reagan. Both times people had breathing space to examine thier lot, both times led to serious upheaval, as folks figured they were getting screwed, or at least, things could be better.
it was Reagans job to dismantle the middle class for that very reason, a project which has continued unabated right up to today…..

  4. This can not bring any of the human loss back regardless and my condolences; to all no matter where they lived to all that were killed, injured, and harmed.

A Hydrogen generator can make enough Hydrogen to fill 4 fuel cells or Hydrogen engine cars a day off of solar or wind turbine zero pollution generated. That is equal to $320 a day in gas at present gas prices. Over one year the cost of buying the gas is $116,000.00 the H6M cost ranges from $200,000.00 - $225,000.00 depending on the added features. You figure it out, pay off is less then 24 months. The cost of the oil war so far $3,000,000,000,000.00 /200,000 =1,500,000 H6M could have been purchased filling 6,000,000 cars a day for EVER, by investing in this rather then the oil wars look at what we could have had. In stead of pissing the 3 trillion dollars away to bush’s friends look at what we could be doing. Lets now plug $5-$10 for a fill up of hydrogen seeing that would have been the best use of the 3 trillion dollars buying 1,500,000 hydrogen generators seeing we have not gotten shit for bush’s oil wars. These hydrogen generators could have created free health care as a start with this deal and completely out of our national debt in fewer then 20 years. Like any technology it will always improve and become cheaper once people start using it.

So do you understand who are the real terrorist can you say Nancy Pelosi, the republicans, and big oil. Now you know what you could have gotten for that 3 trillon dollars and impeachment is off the table

  5. In trying to stick to your new theme I find most all subjects presented have their place stuck in the back receses of most minds, First, reading the comments left by the Sign on S.D. site on that most unfortunate gal being sent back to serve time on a 35 year old crime she commited while at the age of 19. I guess I wasn’t shocked at some of the posted comments by our fine thinking law and order citizens here in the wooded hollows of southern Californian Applachia When living in North Carolina in the Smokies, I expected most of the locals to think in this way, but after fifteen years since I was there the citizenry there has evolved where as the people here have regresed. I hate to throw a blanket over a whole group of people but compared to the citizenry of northern California We are Hicks and quite illeterate. In 1974 sold my TEXACO station and premium was going for 68.9 per gal. the diesel I bought testerday was $4.59.9 what a crock of shit.

  6. I read that Jenna Bush is getting married!

That reminded me of the joke McCain told a few years ago about her - http://www.salon.com/news/1998/06/25newsb.html

“Why is Jenna Bush so stupid? Because her father is George Bush!”

I may be mis-remembering McCain’s exact joke, I admit, but I’m sure he apologized for telling it afterwards.

Say, Knifemaster- its my understanding hydrogen will work as a stationary power source but be essentially useless as an auto fuel. Reason: Iceland. The fiends. No, Iceland has/had 4 busses in its major city that run off of hydrogen fuel (geothermal supplies the massive amts of electricity for the electrolysis) Anyhow, each fillup gives the bus a range of 120 odd miles. So far, so good. The FUEL TANK wieghs 2.5 tons!
So, unless you have essentially free power to make the hydrogen, and a car with a couple of tons tied up in just containing it, well, it dosnt pencil out.
Makes more sense if you can make it cheaply, or with less energy than you get out of it, and it runs something stationary.

  10. I have been checking out what the kooks on signonsandiego have been saying about any story lately. Like the Rachel Silva case as well. Look, you gotta be really naive to trust law enforcement in general, but to accept their word in this city (and county) as the final word is just plain stupidity. We know who’s hands are washing who’s and in this city, the DA will ALWAYS cover for the police unless the police officer in question if Greg Pyer, who murdered Cara Knott (and almost got away with it had it not been for a pattern he had established of pulling over nubiles and attempting that which he actually did the night he killed Knott). Let us not mention that within the past 7 years or so, there had been a problem with police impersonators robbing people that they tricked into pulling over. Let us also not mention that when Rachel Silva and her son got shot at, the police officer in this case, was one: off duty and two: a fucking adult. You don’t need to shoot at someone and I guarantee if this was joe citizen, he would fry and the people who condemn Silva would most likely be the same people condemning this “street thug” for shooting a “poor mother who decided to have a few drinks that night.”

Then we get to the comments on LeFevre. They have only convinced me that we, as a country, are just getting much stupider by the day. Look, stop pretending that life exists in a vaccuum and that every criminal has to pay their penalty. In this one case (and many others) the penalty is way too stiff. Starting in that time, law enforcement wasn’t trying to impose stiffer penalties because they thought the criminals deserved it. No, they only did it because it was bait to turn in someone higher up the chain then you. It’s why guys in the MOB started turning rat. You can get the penalty significantly reduced…all you gotta do is give up a name. She didn’t (probably because she worried about getting killed if she turned in someone bigger) and she got 10-20 years because of it. All the comments on that board are either about how horrible she is for selling heroin or they say how horrible she is for keeping this secret forever. Well, why don’t we punish her for 30+ years of good behavior by throwing her in the Michigan State Pokey and let her serve her time separating her from her family and her son who’s still in high school? Look, the world ain’t black and white and things like this are the reason for looking at things in a case by case basis.

The reporting at the U-T has always had a con-tilt. That never really bothered me. I mean, it didn’t until they ceased looking for the truth in stories. They take law enforcement’s word for it and don’t really question anything. Sure, they gave us the Randy Cunningham story(and when it came out, local conservative types screamed it was a witch hunt), but what have they done that’s ground breaking since then besides stick their tongues up Jerry Sander’s bum? The local media as a whole is ridiculous. Unless it’s Bob Kittle fighting with Mike Aguirre, we get absolutely no clashes between the press and city hall. Tell me, in what city does that happen? (even though Stacy’g blog was not political, it kinda was)

    Keep it real.

I like you came to the conclusion a long time ago Hydro. was not feasable at this time as reported in the film “Who Killed the Electric car”. A year ago While watching the series “The Green” on sundance I became interested in converting an older diesel car to run on waste vegetable oil. after much internetting I bought an old Mercedes 240 D, ordered a kit from an outfit called Gresecar (www.greasecar.com) Installed it in a week and have been running it for about free. Having been in the resturant business, I still had access to waste veggi oil so not a problem. Back in the day, we all had victory gardens of some sort and because of the times we live in today, just got through putting in my Rescission garden and am harvesting my own organic veggies. Those of you who are interested in learning about ways to go Green, go to the tube on Tuesday nights at 9:00 PM and wasch the series “The Green” on Sundance channel. You’ll find things you can do easily and without much expense and contribute to saving the planet.

We USED to support Holden Roberto back then, who, like Savimbi, boasted of taking no prisoners alive. Savimbi was then a boogieman, a Maoist! A commalnit fiend!!

  24. Stacy:

    I write this as friend.

The fact that the recording of your meltdown was broadcast was, in the long term, to your benefit—irrespective of the short term. You need to see yourself as others do—in all aspects of complexity—including the ugly.

I do not know you personally but have listened to your show for about six months (Air America and now 1700AM). I can see you have enormous strengths and therefore likely strong weaknesses as well.

Irrespective of what happens to you and your show, it seems, you owe yourself a break. Like many in battle, you get caught up in the emotional turmoil of good versus bad, or some kind of violent display.

Contrition is an act you now need to learn and embrace. Many of us in San Diego are counting on you because we have so few sources of getting the message.

Personally I hope you really did feel embarrassed and humility—because without such capacity you will lack enough humanity to get to the point of great effect you may still have to offer.

They’ll to be voting for other crazy people just like themselves and next week’s Repug of the Week James Hartline http://hartline08.com/ — and they’re angry. This means that we need to get out and vote as well.

And don’t say, “it’s just a primary.” These votes count in so many ways. For example, in the 52nd distict we have a wonderful candidate in Mike Lumpkin, and he is being targeted by the Democratic Congressional Committee (DCCC) for funding for the general election in November. The more votes he gets the more money his campaign will receive from them for the general election in November. We all want change, so let’s go out and vote!

Mr. Big Joke I sell hydrogen generators 80% of the ones I sell have a PAYOFF in 24 months or less the other 20% Pay off is at 32 months. The reason it takes the last 20% to Payoff in the extra 8 months they do not use its full capacity. Mr. Big Joke the caveat is that is when gasoline and energy cost were at $3.00 a gallon. Now you can do the adjustment by factoring in the 25% cost of energy increase.

Mr. Big Joke I take by your sound knowledge of alternative energy that global warming is a joke also. You see when you piss a way 3 trillion dollars on a corporate war like Iraq that can only benefit the oil terrorist. While the dim-witted pathetic American public lack the minimal mental skills to see through the Bush Administration total bull shit. The asinine American public waving the gad dam American flags while repeating the mindless republican talking point like “freedom isn’t free” but the funny thing is the oil companies are getting a free ride. Freedom isn’t free, dam right when the drop 3 trillion on the wet dream in Iraq and now every man, women, and child in the United States have a $30,000.00 obligation placed on them by Bush and the oil terrorist.

  37. Dear Stacy Taylor:

I heard the audio recording of your anger tirade thee other day. I’m sorry to see that you are suffering so.

I do not know what Great Spirit you communicate with, hopefully on a daily basis, but you seem to be investing energy in some negative feedback loops—resentments, emotional or intellectual attachments, presumptions and attitudes.

Even though I do not think I am alcoholic enough to quit drinking completely, nor am I brainwashed to think AA has all the answers, I still occasionally go to an AA meeting because it is refreshing to hear people talk about their attitude of gratitude. It is assuring that I was not the only one to thought the world owed me something as I made a jackass ought of myself presuming so.

Bad habits and energy investments can humble a guy or gal. It’s OK to be the smartest guy in the room but you still need the wisdom of remaining somewhat humble for the house.

Obviously you have some sensitive buttons. Personally, given my elderly age and job hop history, I’m just glad to have a job. I have quit as many jobs and you and have, and equally been fired enough to have burned my share of bridges. So I can say these things with some respect for your unknown particulars of emotional history. We who tend to fight for high ideals sometimes forget to watch our styles.

Equally your tendency to be snappy and seemingly somewhat tyrranical has leaked out to the airwaves as you have complained a bit on issues of technologies not working, not enough staff, and not enough salary, etc. I grew up in an emotionally disturbed (volatile) family. I learned inappropriate ways of trying to get my way. I know how anger has a way of disrupting goals and hurting people. “How much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the causes or it!” – Marcus Aurelius

If you are dealing with financial stress know within yourself that you could easily make money as an author—your spontaneous speech is more literary than many writers.

As far as management and resource—a smart business remains flexible with resource—it is simply good business sense.

Relax and get plenty of quality please.

My son says he has a boring job and there is not much interesting on the radio to listen to—so he needs you ought making it happen.

P.S. Can you tell marketing to get the asinine Dennis Miller spiel about swastikas carved on the forehead off the fricken air? The guy is moron.
