A musical interlude, The New Rhythm and Blues Quartet, or NRBQ, singing a song  ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhpKYbRWls8) about a car and a carburetor (http://www.scoot-parts.com/servlet/the-7122/Floater-needle-PHB-carburetor,10g/Detail), a band, like Fleetwood Mac and Genesis, and Steve Miller (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmBDIj2fbB8) who actually were recording when I was still in college and managed to keep it together into the new millennium. Any other suggestions?

  3. Oh my Gawd! Someone made a video of exactly what was going through my head when I sent you this song the other day. Ok, just get over the fact that I like Elton. I have taken guff for more than 4 decades. More important is what I just found on you tube all because I read your daily musings. So thanks Stacy. If this doesn’t evoke an emotional disdain for our current affairs you are neither current or human.

Just read some of the comments on this story. Truly painful to see that people are so lacking in common sense and compassion.

  6. Jesse Jackson must not know his Nietzsche, who intimated that the “interesting” ones will never make it to heaven.

But Jackson is more than interesting. And it is not the “Nigeria” word that is so revealing-—rather it is Jackson’s low ball vice-iousness that was caught on recording.

Granted, enough people are attracted to judgmental religions to help deal with their own demons, but those that play the part of a spiritual leader ought to exemplify some manner of spiritual enlightenment. Jackson’s vicious remarks depict a man who still lives in a spiritual gutter.

The Latin root ‘spiritus’ means “to breathe” which we can interpret to include what a person says, and what the meaning of that person’s breath manifests. Perhaps people who live a spiritual life—-in any capacity-—ought study a variety of spiritual approaches-—so as to become aware of the limitations of the ego, one’s pride, one’s sense of self-hatred etc.?

While many readily dwell on the political inappropriateness of the so called “n-word”, the question remains as to which word will suffice for enmity directed at what various people don’t like about how some Afro-Americans act? This is not to suggest that some forms of labeling as enmity and prejudice are not laced with unreasonable hatred-—but when are people going to address low-life acts and attitudes that stir up and reinforce negativity? Has not Jesse Jackson “projected” a certain negritude to his apparent nemesis?

Where are those that ask about the self-hatred in the black community that too frequently laces attitudes of blatant action and blatant anti-sociality? One would think that Afro-American leaders could find issues more important to contemplate than attitudes meant to pull others down.

  7. Why have none of the local media done a review about the movie “Constantine’s Sword” apparently that shows the dark side of Christianity?

    The Truth About Torture
To get a full accounting of how U.S. interrogation methods were used, the president should give those accused of ‘war crimes’ a pass.

  10. Hello, San Diego! Howdy, Stacy!

Genesis is one of those subjects that gets into my “wheelhouse”, so I figured I’d use that as an excuse to finally un-lurk here. :)

Genesis remained active through 1999, with Ray Wilson replacing Collins for one album, and a brief reunion for a single recording for a greatest hits album. Collins, Banks and Rutherford reunited in 2007 for a tour of Europe then North America. So, they didn’t quite make it as far as the millenium, and I think they’re pretty much on official hiatus as of the end of this last tour. But I don’t think they’ve ever actually called it quits, for good.
