Ah, the internet and streaming video! You can selectively watch portions of the convention without stumbling over the vapid ramblings of Soledad O’Brien, or worse, Amy Holmes. So far, the best sight for this is Crooks and Liars which has included most of the major speeches so far, unedited and in their entirety. Even MSNBC, the slightly off-center cable outlet that occasionally offers something that is not utterly predictable, has imploded into a testy redux of the Battling Bickersons.

That aside, what happened to the DOA story line that the Clinton’s were in Denver merely to sabotage Obama’s big moment, even possibly to steal the nomination? What I witnessed were 2 crafty, articulate politicians rallying the throng behind their candidate without the slightest hint of bitterness or condescension. Well, when the MSM invents a story line, they stick to it. Latest variation is that, so far, the convention has been all about the Clinton’s ! No s**t? Possibly because the a**holes in the press couldn’t talk about anything other than the Clinton’s for a week leading up to the convention? Or possibly because a former 2-term President and a former 2-term First Lady, U.S. Senator, and Democratic primary runner-up were giving prime-time speaking slots????

Speaking of Hillary, I thought her speech was terrific. Seriously. I mean, it was only a speechafter all, the purpose of which was to connect to rank-and-file Dems with the use of iconic imagery, buzz words, and the kind of lofty rhetoric that is intended to inspire and engage, but it was really, really good. Doubtless, there probably was a touch of that “buyer’s remorse” for Obama supporters. But again, I apparently missed the Big Picture again. Can’t wait for the nihilists to drop that marmot into McCain’s bath tub next week. They will, won’t they? Won’t they?

  1. Just shows `ya that the PUMA story was all a KKKarl Rove fairy tale.
Scary picture of Hillary, that could give McCan’t heart failure!!
Also I am exceedingly nauseated by the plethora of pantsuits of the ‘powerful’ women of the DemocratIC party.
President Clinton was very good, the crowd loved him.
I really liked the Biden/Obama moment on stage!

  2. I agree with you, yet again Stacy. Both Clinton’s were great. And where was THAT John Kerry 4 years ago? Tuesday Kucinich gave a great Wake Up America speech to a half full house. I wish his speech was being broadcast as a PSA, looping 24/7.

I saw a picture of the GOP stage for next week. They’re calling it a more intimate venue with a Town Hall Meeting feel. It sure looked pitiful by comparison to me. I will only watch the GOP convention on C-Span to avoid all the slanted yapping by MSM. I don’t need their views. I’m just gonna sit back and watch them try to spin failure after failure. Be on the look out for a very dizzy marmot!

  3. Gathering some of my wits and thoughts together, am going to try and watch some of the repub. marmot gathering next week just to see what kind of questions the elite press are going to quire their republican benefactors with, questions such as those from the likes of David Gregory and Scarbourgh. Questions that have more of an opinion, slant and bias. Holy shit, where have all the real reporters gone? Editorials? I’ll go to the OP. Ed. page. The media is going to prolong this fabricated disention just in order to rake in the big bucks available. Folks, have you seen McCain’s latest interviews? There are the makings of a real sad old man going through the motions of a bygone life never to be found again. Some people don’t know when to hang it up.

  4. Well, apart from the scripted baloney INSIDE the hall….if you can, look at todays (Thurs) LA Times pg A 25- Iraq Vets Against the War confront the cowardly, corrupt Dims where they live. The Dims hid behind phalanxes of heavily armed cops & mercs, and Obama sent out some apparatchik to beg them to go away.
The baloney- spines INSIDE melted away before the steel spines OUTSIDE. Hid behind the gunsels & armored cars, & ordered them off…….
The vets insane demand? a chance to address the convention, injecting a massive dose of desperately needed reality. No chance, of course. Were talking about Dims here, not an opposition party.
And to think they took the House & Senate intimating they would end the war. With a frisson of “accountability”- right.
the war will end when campaign contributors quit profiting, & the troops tell them to shove it. Not before, & not with the likes of Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry, or , sad to say, Obama callin the shots.

the Repub Gathering of Goons will actually be easier to watch: no deception, a la Dims, just outright wing nuttery. It’ll give Colbert insanely funny material…….watching the Dims is like watching a fixed bowling match- dull enough WITHOUT the pre ordained moves & commentary.

And we meet where & when? The IVAW concert in Oceanside?

  5. Both Amy Holmes and Michelle Malkin are cunts. As far as the conventions goes. I thought both Hillary & Bill Clinton hit two inside the park homeruns in terms of their unequivocal endorsements of Barack Obama & Joe Biden. Unfortunately, we still have the GOP conventions next week. With the Republicans being the home team, w/ the team’s last “at bat”. So I’ll watch, and hear all the right wing’s bullshit, lame arguments into why “Old Fart McCain” is qualified to be “commander in chief”, the attacks on Obama, all their one line bumper sticker slogans, and all their other propagandas. And unfortunately in this country, the right wing attacks & right wing propaganda resonates upon the low I.Q’d, poorly informed, ignorant American public.

  7. Hillary’s speech had me screaming. Obama was also very strong tonight. It was interesting to go back and watch his 2004 keynote. These are the things we hold dear. And I thought the “change” was simply to eliminate criminal behavior in the White House. This truly is a battle between the cool people and the dicks. May we vanquish the foe for all time.

If you know anyone between the ages of 18 and 24, make damn sure they vote in this.

And no Gary, the PUMAs are very much for real. And I have no idea where the hell they are coming from. But who the hell needs them? Let’s win this one for everyone.

You know what would impress me and get me to actually spend my time watching one of these conventions ( I never have wasted my time on them and probably never will) would be if just one of these speakers would actually have the brains to write one of their owm speachs and speak like a human being and not some programed robot. I can’t stnd they way these phoney politicians talk to people. It’s so freaking fake ad full of BS. Stacy is right, most of this cuntry is a bunch of idiots and millions of them are tuned in to this convention right now and suckling up all of the hot air crap that is being pumped out by these brilliant politicans that are fooling the hell of of their idiot listeners.

  11. And while proggywogs everywhere are spooging over Obamas speech: master job, if you go by speeches- I noted he tied us to Zionist, expansionist Israel, tied us to the insane invasion of S Ossetia by Georgia, and not one word about the Iraqis wanting us OUT, the Afghanistan adventure being utterly blown beyond redemption, lost, gone, its over, OR holding Cheneyco accountable. For anything. Anything at all…….lotsa talk about a bright shiney tommorrow, not one word about the 3?6?9? trillion plus Debt, not one word about how the wars are bottomless money pits, scams, public wars for private profit, not one word about out of control merc corruption……..or getting our $ back. not one word about malfactors of great wealth (TR quote) who are STILL selling off our industrial equipment abroad & getting TAX BREAKS for exporting our tool & machinery assets, (maybe coz they are heavy Dim contributors these days?)

Investigation to begin into whether Governor Sarah Palin abused her power in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan
By Corey Allen-Young, CBS 11 News Reporter
Article Last Updated: 07/28/2008 06:49:51 PM AKDT

Lawmakers will hire someone within a week to investigate whether Governor Sarah Palin abused her power in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. The legislative council approved 100,000 dollars for the investigation that will find out whether Palin was angry at Monegan for not firing an Alaska State Trooper who went through a messy divorce with Palin’s sister.
On Monday afternoon, the Joint Legislative Council, filled with Republicans and Democrats, voted 12 to 0 to formally call for an investigation against Governor Palin in a manner—that they are stressing—will be unbiased and done in a timely fashion.

  21. I kinda like that she was a former Alaskan Beauty Queen. She is against abortion. She favors capital punishment. She opposes same-sex marriages. Currently under investigation of family scandal as stated above. Her oldest of 5 children leaves for Iraq in September, and her youngest was born with Down’s Syndrome a few months ago. On June 2nd in an interview with Glen Beck (accidental mouse click, I promise) she answered No to his question when asked if she would accept the Vice Presidential nomination from McCain. She felt a stronger need in Alaska at that time. Ain’t it always about the oil with these people???

In reference to Senator Obama’s speech last night:

Demeanor: like that of an eagle.

Spirit: fierce—a true threat to a crooked and mediocre status quo.

Vernacular: moral, intelligent, respectful and straight—no weasel words, no cute crap, no fancifully or esoteric gibberish.

Politics: mostly right on for most subjects but still caters to an “entitlement/victim attitude” crowd that thinks that just because one is born one is automatically entitled to a good job, good benefits, free health care, etc. as if this stuff was easily affordable—as long as some third party is paying the tab.

Shocking Israeli Plot To Assassinate Obama Foiled In US

By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers (Traducción al Español abajo)

FSB reports to Prime Minister Putin circulating in the Kremlin today are stating that an Israeli based plot to assassinate the United States Democratic Party Presidential Candidate Barack Obama has been foiled due to information relayed to American Intelligence Officials from Russian Military Forces who are still decrypting secret documents captured in Georgia from retreating Georgian special forces troops trained in Israel.

According to these reports, Russian forces had captured secret war documents, and plans, drawn up by former Israeli Brigadier General Gal Hirsch [pictured 2nd photo on left] who commanded Israel’s forces during their disastrous 2006 war in Lebanon, who resigned prior to his being investigated for his war failures, and was in command of Georgian Military Forces during their, likewise, disastrous invasion of Russian protected South Ossetia.

Contained in these captured documents, these reports continue, was one titled “Operation Drago” which detailed the assassination plot in ‘great detail’, including its ‘main objective’ to foist blame for the killing of Barack Obama on Neo-Nazi connected White Supremacist groups based in the United States.

  31. In a way I almost feel sorry for Gov. Palin, even as I disagree with every damn position she has ever taken. She is obviously the unwitting pawn being used in a shrewd attempt to grab a few Hillary voters. I want to write her a letter and ask her “Ma’am, do you know what you are jumping into?”

She has a year of executive experience governing Alaska, a state with a population of roughly 600,000. That’s half of the city of San Diego. One could argue that Jerry Sanders is more qualified to be McCain’s running mate. She seems like a nice lady, why drop into this fishbowl? More like a sharktank.

And then there’s Joe Biden, a democratic junkyard dog no repug in their right mind wants to face in a debate. This guy was born in a coal town in Pennsylvania and has faced down Milosovich. To say Mrs. Palin is woefully outclassed is a ridiculous understatement.

McCain is throwing a Hail Mary(or would that be Hail Sarah?) and I don’t think it will work. Does anyone else think a picture of McCain with Palin looks like Grandpa at this Granddaughter’s college graduation?

By the way Romney is reportedly so pissed one of his hairs got messed up.

  39. Guess what? The Repugs are already in repeat mode. Meaning that they repeat all the bullshit they hear untill if sounds like the truth. Two days ago, I can bet you to a man, not a one of these ass clowns had any idea who the fuck the governor of Alaska was. Now, they are all acting like this is such a great idea and they all know Sarah Palin’s name. These are the words coming from the mouths of your everyday man on the street repuglican. Not just the radio douches. So, word got out and it was definitely repeated more times than “flip flop” and “cut and run”.

Also the numbers they throw out to demonstrate how she has EVEN MORE experience then Obama., I heard today that he has only been in the senate 181 days since 2005. (what is interesting here is that McBush has probably spent even less time there then Obama…remember the Jim Webb sponsored VA Bill that McCain didn’t vote on yet gets ALL of the credit for)…if this is the utter bullshit that is being repeated many times daily by all the dipshits on all the Repukelican talk shows on radio and Fox News, we may be in trouble.

Are we at war with Eastasia or Eurasia? Wait no, we have always been at war with Eurasia and Eastasia has always been our allies. You catch my drift? The people listening to these shows are so blinded by what they are told to believe. I know Gabe takes issue with all of us, but dude….you gotta understand that at the very least, we read….a lot of different sources ad don’t just watch MSNBC to get our liberal ideas. We developed them pretty much on our own…like it or not. We have exactly one show in San Diego ( maybe Michael Jackson) on the radio that has like ideas…this versus 3 stations of all to wall neocon repeatalism. Not to mention that on the station that Stacy IS on, most of the day, it’s the same as those other three.

  41. When I said above that McBush spent less time then Obama in the Senate….I meant in the last 19 months.

As for Ronald Reagan in a dress…..dude, when the hell did Cons get this idea that Reagan was this God-like icon? Reagan is a symbol of the top one percent’s excesses in the 80’s. Never before or since has there been a better example of Republican contempt for all those “unnecessary” social programs like Social Security, Medicaid, and even Welfare. The 80’s brought us the prevailing attitude of the day that “Greed is good” and that it’s okay to borrow from Social Security in order to shore up that big ass deficit we created.

W will be an icon 8-12 years from now when Repukelicans begin to shit theirselves at the idea that Democratic or Independent economic policies actually fuckin work across the board and not just for the upper class (which Republicans say, depending on which argument they are making starts at $42,000 a year when they attempt to scare those folks that make that much that their taxes will most certainly go up…..or is making more than $5 million, since anything below that is actually “middle class” to them.) They will be calling for yet another GOP administration that will only benefit the rich once again.

Oh, but Ronald Reagan kicked ass….so will having Sarah Palin get Vladimir Putin shaking in his boots? Sarah Palin, now will just merely have to say “Mr. Putin, get those tanks out of Georgia!” Like the “Tear down that wall” declaration the great Ronald Reagan made.

Would all the listeners of rightwing radio really think that Reagan was such a great president if that idea wasn’t repeated a million times a day? We all know that Michael Reagan thinks his old man’s policies were terrific and that Hannity would blow Ronald Reagan’s corpse if he thought it would bring him back to life. I find it interesting that Reagan’s namesake Ron is actually kind of a liberal.

  46. I really don’t care much for Mc Cain so I will probably ignore the man while he bumbles around in the white house while he and his VP are demonized for the next 4 years by the angry mob on the left. My life the way I see it and live it is really not effected by who is fumbling around in the white house anyway. Regardless of who has been at the helm my business has grown and my life has always been better than ever…….Out racing motorcycles this Saturday night and running a booth for 3 days at the stickball tourny in Little Italy……great fun for a labor day weekend. Drop by and say hi to Babsie at the Angel Painting booth.

I don’t really think that you are hopeless as a human being, Gabe, but there is a lot of shit that you just don’t understand. Nobody ever demonized Reagan. He was judged for what he did in office, and that stupid pee on poor people theory. He would be the first to admit that trickle-down economics won’t work if he were around today. He would have been appalled by the Bush presidency. Maybe you were OK with Iran-Contra. It sounds to me like you don’t care very much about law unless it affects your own life. And that’ the key thing. Sure, life is beautiful. Don’t you think something can be done to help those less fortunate than ourselves? Just kidding.

Bush senior was never demonized. Not to my knowledge. For God sake! Clinton was demonized! What the hell did he ever to piss anyone off? He was the original Republican light.

Bush and Cheney are demons. It’s that simple. It’s not just the war. He couldn’t have done that without war-pig democrats supporting him all the way. But it’s still enough to hate his guts. He started a fucking war where there was none. A lot of people died. Many more are permanently disabled. He bankrupted the richest nation on earth. Iraq is still completely messed up, in case you didn’t know. You can honestly tell me you don’t care about that because “business is good?” What about our reputation in the world as a peace-loving nation? I pity you.

Letting oil industry insiders formulate energy regulatory policy probably makes perfect sense to you. Giving the SS trust fund to Wall Street probably makes good financial sense. I’m not worried about McCain pulling that one off. But if he starts another war, you can bet your house he will be demonized. Fourth amendment rights? Who cares? It ain’t me, right? Black men in prison? It ain’t me! Making college affordable to every young person who works hard? Won’t the free market hand make that happen? I hope you’re wrong about it being a done deal with the hot librarian, but it was a good strategy on McCain’s part.

  50. “Don’t you think something can be done to help those less fortunate than ourselves?”

It’s called the largest welfair system on earth. That and individual giving is the ticket. We have the highest standerd of living around. Not everyone can be rich ya know……….I don’t coonsider myself so but some would. It all depends on your perspective. In many ways I am rich but not with money even though I do pretty ggood these days.

“but there is a lot of shit that you just don’t understand. Nobody ever demonized Reagan”

I understand plent enough. There is plenty you and the majority of the left just don’t get also. I never said Regan was demonized BTW. And please don;t try putting word in a dead man’s mouth. It’s ridiclous. BTW when died Stacy did his best to deonize him. He always does. He is realy quite disgusting with it also. The last time some politician he didn’t like died he said on the air ” may he burn in hell” That’s a fact….that’s dispicapable

“democrats supporting him all the way.” I rest my case about them ( Democrates )being just as evil ( if they really are) You said it for me.

“He bankrupted the richest nation on earth” yea right……….

“You can honestly tell me you don’t care about that because “business is good?” ”

Neer said anything of the like. Stop twisting what I have said dude. I am just stating econimic FACTS. It has nothing to do with what I think of the war. You act as if because I am happy that my business is doing well then I must somehow be really happy that the war is continuing on without end. I paint houses and businesse and schools for a living. You act like I build war weapons and bombs. If you had bothered to actuall read what I have said in the past here you would know that I think the war is ridiclous and stupid. Here I will quote myself from the last thread. ” The war should have been over in 6 months.” ” The Democrates in congress keep votng for it and to fund it” If they were serious about stoping it then why do they continue to do this? Answer me that will you. Polls indicate that over 75% of people are against this war now yet the Politicians continue this Bullshit? It’s freaking insane. The only thing I am able to do is to visit wounder soldiers at the NAVY hospital and take things to them. What are you doing other than taLKING AND CASTING YOUR ONE USEESS VOTE THAT THE POLITICIANS ARE NOT LISTENING TO.

FYI……I am not a member of the REPUBLICAN Party either…I bet I have said that at least 10 times or more yet just because I give the left a hard time it is automaticly assumed that I must be a evil Republican monster…….How stupid it that. It’s what talk radio loud mouth’s have programed you to think. With a knee jerk , put them in a box so you can hate them and call them nasty names thinking. It’s what’s wrong with talk radio. It’s far to hatefilled fom both sides.

“Black men in prison? It ain’t me!”

……Oh please………. Now that is ridiclous. Your last paragraph has now diminished into a ridiclous rant programed by radio head thinking……….

Perhaps their are black men in prison because they have COMMITTED CRIMES????
No that would be to straight forwrd of an answer.Dude please. You being idiotic now. Guess what. There are WHITE MEN AND WOMEN in prison……… what shall we do about that. I know. Let’s put Obama to work on that one. He will solve it………dream on man, dream on………

  51. Well my point remains the same. Nobody has demonized McCain. And it does matter who is in the white house. Forgive me for lionizing Reagan a little. I just can’t believe he would be on board with the sadistic polices of W and company.

Bankruptcy doesn’t mean all the money and assets are gone. It just means Bush broke the bank. Each year the fed runs a gargantuan deficit. Bush has doubled the national debt. That is bankruptcy dewd! The economy was so screwed he gave everybody a tax rebate, further plunging us into debt.

So, if you’re not a Republican, can’t you just say it? Bush is a monster. Cheney is the devil.

Torture, mass murder, secret prisons, wars of aggression, the undermining of domestic governmental oversight, media consolidation, fruitloop bible quacks asserting political power, unleashing crazed “intelligence” bureaucrats on the public, the dismantling of the commons- Cheneyco is just building on Reagans foundation.

Palin and the ‘Bridge to Nowhere’
Posted by BLAKE DVORAK | E-Mail This | Permalink | Email Author
ST. PAUL — USA Today this morning takes a look at Sarah Palin’s claim in her speech last week that she opposed the so-called Bridge to Nowhere. It finds that Palin’s opposition wasn’t always so strong:

“We need to come to the defense of Southeast Alaska when proposals are on the table like the bridge, and not allow the spinmeisters to turn this project or any other into something that’s so negative,” Palin said in August 2006, according to the Ketchikan Daily News.

The Anchorage Daily News quoted her in October 2006 as saying she would continue state funding for the bridge. “The window is now, while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist,” she said…
