But if you were sickened by the mass media ejaculation over that speech, this might help you get over it.
I found her at first uneasy, much like a high school kid giving a written speech. As she gained confidence, it turned into a snarky hit-fest. Talk about lacking substance.
However, slimy dickweed Joe Biden this morning was so phony with his faint praise and “talking points” (for lack of a better term) that it just reinforced my staunch small L libertarianism and hatred for both of these camps. Of course, with Bob “Lynch ‘em for lyin’ about blow jobs” Barr heading the big L Libertarians, who the hell is there to turn to?

This is what we should be saying about her speech: “Where’s the beef?” All pitbull with lipstick snarl but no actual information about how she and McCain were going to improve the country. Just victory in Iraq - whatever and whenever that is - 100 years? And drill, drill, drill! Oh, yeah, and John was a POW and the only candidate who fought for our country. Clearly, the only way to “fight” in their minds is militarily. What about fighting for the principles the Democrats stand for, redeploying to Afghanistan, getting bin Laden, the economy, keeping jobs in the U.S., fix the healthcare crisis, etc. One thing we know for sure about her now is that she will lie just like the rest of ‘em. John McCain is the same man? Yeah, the same man who voted along party lines for the past eight years. BTW it was the GOP Congress that changed the statute of limitations on employment discrimination that screwed Mrs. Vedbetter and other women like her who were consistently paid less than their male counterparts on the job.

Yeah, well you know….John McCain was a POW and a resident of the Hanoi Hilton for 5 years, so he can do what he wants. I had no idea this happened. After hearing it from every single speaker at the RNC, I think I will now change my vote now.

I am actually a bit sick to death of hearing about his Vietnam experence. I really don’t see how it is relevevn to running the country today. I respect what he went through and all of that but could we please hear about how he plans to solve our current problems and dump this stupid flag waving crap? I really have had enough of this sort of stuff. I mean really, what planet must you have been living on in order to NOT know that McCain was a POW? Tell me about your plans for tomorrow. Not what you did 40 years ago OK?
Comment by Gabe — Friday, September 5, 2008 @ 4:53 am
Yeah, well…he was a POW for 5 years and he could have gone home early, but didn’t because he thought prisoners who were there longer should go home first….a truly selfless act…then he cheated on his wife and traded up by marrying into more money. I ain’t knocking that by the way….it’s just kind of a contradiction. I guess the torture of a hot chick wanting to bone you is much harder to endure than 5 years…5 years in Hanoi. If only the Vietnamese knew what his “kryptonite” was, they could have had him selling out his country and fellow prisoners of war.
Check that….hot chicks and whatever Rove and Bush did to him in 2000 were harder to endure then the Hanoi Hilton.

McCain Camp Says Palin Won’t Talk To Media During Campaign
Mark Nickolas on Sep 4, 2008
Get a load of this utter nonsense that Jay Carney over at Time is reporting:
According to Nicole Wallace of the McCain campaign, the American people don’t care whether Sarah Palin can answer specific questions about foreign and domestic policy. According to Wallace — in an appearance I did with her this morning on Joe Scarborough’s show — the American people will learn all they need to know (and all they deserve to know) from Palin’s scripted speeches and choreographed appearances on the campaign trail and in campaign ads.
Wallace’s bash-the-media exercise has its merits as a campaign tactic. It certainly rallies the base. But the base won’t lift McCain to 50% in November. More importantly, in her smug dismissal of the media’s role in asking questions of the candidates, Wallace was really showing contempt not for reporters, but for voters. I bet there are a lot of undecided voters out there who were intrigued by Sarah Palin last night, but who don’t yet know enough about her — what she believes, what she knows — to be comfortable with the idea of her as vice president of the United States. It’s important to them to know if Palin can handle herself in an environment that isn’t controlled and sanitized by campaign image makers and message mavens. Maybe she can, maybe she can’t. As far as Wallace is concerned, it’s none of their — or your — business.
Seems they’ve all but confirmed that Palin doesn’t have a clue and is too scared to talk to the media. What I’m sure the McCain camp will do is allow Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and Laura Ingraham to do sit downs with her, lob her fluff balls, and then argue that she’s done media and we shouldn’t complain.
Any doubt that Karl Rove is running the show?

Who is McCain trying to kid? Here’s Palin’s record as Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, from the vetting document (PDF) done by the Democrats in 2006, posted by Mudflats, the indispensable Alaskan blog. Yes, Palin has been vetted before - just not by McCain:
Debt Service Increased 69 Percent Under Palin.
In fiscal 2003 — the last fiscal year Palin approved the budget — the total government debt service was $658,662. In fiscal 1996 — the year before Palin took control of the budget—the debt service was $390,385. The increase was 69 percent. [Wasilla Comprehensive Annual Financial Report 2003, Table 1]
Palin Left Behind Almost $19 Million In Long-Term Debt, Compared to None Before She Was Mayor.
In fiscal 2003—the last fiscal year Palin approved the budget—the bonded long-term debt was $18,635,000. In fiscal 1996—the year before Palin took control of the budget—there was no general obligation debt. [Wasilla Comprehensive Annual Financial Report 2003, Table 10]
Long-Term Debt Was $3000 Per Capita When Palin Left, Compared to None Before She Was Mayor.

And to my surmise, I think he’s already toast. I think he’s been dead for a while now. And in my estimation, to escalate the conflict in Afghanistan would just be a waste of money and time. But again, Uncle Sam still needs a boogeyman to scare the easily frightened, braindead American masses. And having a boogeyman out there also helps the GOP fear mongers tremendously as well. Just look at the polls today, it’s a statistical dead heat. And having that cunt Sarah Palin certainly doesn’t hurt the GOP’s chances of winning yet another bid for the Oval Office in this November’s GE.

Comment by Lorelei — Monday, September 8, 2008 @ 11:08 am
I think Gloria Steinem explained very eloquently why Palin is a bad choice in her op-ed in the LA Times. Here’s an excerpt:
She was elected governor largely because the incumbent was unpopular, and she’s won over Alaskans mostly by using unprecedented oil wealth to give a $1,200 rebate to every resident. Now she is being praised by McCain’s campaign as a tax cutter, despite the fact that Alaska has no state income or sales tax. Perhaps McCain has opposed affirmative action for so long that he doesn’t know it’s about inviting more people to meet standards, not lowering them. Or perhaps McCain is following the Bush administration habit, as in the Justice Department, of putting a job candidate’s views on “God, guns and gays” ahead of competence. The difference is that McCain is filling a job one 72-year-old heartbeat away from the presidency.
So let’s be clear: The culprit is John McCain. He may have chosen Palin out of change-envy, or a belief that women can’t tell the difference between form and content, but the main motive was to please right-wing ideologues; the same ones who nixed anyone who is now or ever has been a supporter of reproductive freedom. If that were not the case, McCain could have chosen a woman who knows what a vice president does and who has thought about Iraq; someone like Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison or Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine. McCain could have taken a baby step away from right-wing patriarchs who determine his actions, right down to opposing the Violence Against Women Act.
Palin’s value to those patriarchs is clear: She opposes just about every issue that women support by a majority or plurality. She believes that creationism should be taught in public schools but disbelieves global warming; she opposes gun control but supports government control of women’s wombs; she opposes stem cell research but approves “abstinence-only” programs, which increase unwanted births, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions; she tried to use taxpayers’ millions for a state program to shoot wolves from the air but didn’t spend enough money to fix a state school system with the lowest high-school graduation rate in the nation; she runs with a candidate who opposes the Fair Pay Act but supports $500 million in subsidies for a natural gas pipeline across Alaska; she supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, though even McCain has opted for the lesser evil of offshore drilling. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger.

To Stacy Taylor and your “listening” audience:
Pit Bulls and Lipstick
I never actually saw a pig put on lipstick. I guess it was because pigs had a hard time holding lipstick in their hooves, and the fact that their species never adapted to the manufacture and sale of mirrors for self-conscious assessment?
Whereas I certainly have imagined that atrocity of a pig wearing lipstick, that is, after listening to radio talk host Ed Shultz refer to his stock metaphor of trying to paint a pig with lipstick that meant trying to paint an ugly reality with ruddy glamour.
There is something shockingly crude in the idea of a barnyard bluster of a pig, with its crud of hairy, blotched-colored skin, applying the whimsies of a model’s hauteur to her cream colored face. The elegance of glamour magazines applied to a pig’s alacrity for mud does strike a curious Madonna-like pose indeed.
But a pit bull with lipstick? What are we to think of such a shocking metaphor—that is of a hockey mom equating to a pit bull? Or why do moms continue to where lipstick after getting married anyway?
On my side of town several of us kids could not afford anything but skates and a hockey stick. We did not play with the protective gear that the school teams used or even in skating rinks that had the side fences. And our moms did not come pick us up and drive us home. We walked. But we never pretended to be pit bulls either. We just played our form of poor kid hockey because it was fun and exciting.
Now I must confess that I would be a bit trepid about putting lipstick to a pit bull. It just seems to personal a thing to do. But who knows—maybe dogs, supposedly female curs, in general, would take to a new glamour look—-or at least one could think poodles might consider trying the competitive shtick?
After all dogs are competitive for attention just like humans—but let us hope they don’t get bent out of shape with all those diets, and makeup expenditures, and plastic surgery, and lipo-suction, and anti-depressants, and feminist diatribes about the abuse of women in general. That could be a bit much—kind of like an animal farm parody.
Still one has to believe in the great scheme of things in this huge universe of stellar constellations that a contest of the best picture of a pit bull or dog in general, or even a pig, wearing lipstick, and perhaps an Easter bonnet, could be a positive assertion of animal rights—-that is that animals have the right to be wicked and wenchy?
How about regional or city contests leading to a national championship of the best pit bull in lipstick contest with finalist in a video for YouTube? Or at least a Halloween costume mask of Pit with lipstick rather than blood on the chagrin? That would be as much fun as the pumpkin shooting contest we use to have in Schultz’ neck of the woods around Thanksgiving–and giving thanks we had better be?

When Alice wanting to be the queen of the giant chessgame in the Looking-Glass House the red queen told her to go to eighth square. Their she was confronted with Tweedledum and Tweedledee who made her recite the longest poem she knew. So clued us in on the cosmic import:
“The time has come.” The Walrus said,
“To talk of many things:
Of shoes—-and ships—-and sealing wax-—
Of cabbages—-and kings-—
And why the sea is boiling hot—-
And whether pigs have wings.”

Some impressions and comments on The Lionel Show and Air America.
There is no doubt that Michael William Lebron (Lionel) makes some “realism” points of view that some so called liberals and leftists need to understand. Therefore given how apathetic and naïve are most Americans he makes some sense.
However, anyone that has been around the block once or twice realizes that many good talking preachers sound good on paper so that one needs to compare many perspectives—and pick and choose which ideas and sentiments to take and which to reject. Because Mr. Lionel is clearly too much the beltway insider who continues to compromise, and compromise, until one day he wakes up and realizes that pretty much the entire beltway has become corrupt. The con game always starts with one compromise, and then a little bit more, and then a little bit more until one is blackmail material until one is forced to play the corrupt game. This is the road of the beltway insiders and their self-righteousness of black and white thinking and framing.
No doubt Mr. Lionel is worth listening to but not on a regular basis. He repeats himself too much as to “talks down” to his listeners like they are mostly dumber than he presumes himself.
For example his comment that there are no blacks in St. Paul where “nice” white people live is a perfect example of his Eastern and probably Jewish elitism (his religious background is not revealed). Nevertheless there happens to be a number of blacks living in the Twin Cities, and more importantly it is not the fault of Minnesotans that Minnesota was not a slavery state. But to have some guilt-tripping minorities tell it—the reason for any slanted ratio of whites being high is primarily due to racism—how smug. Furthermore many delegates at the republican convention were from out of state.
Apparently East Coast liberal Air America types like to presume that it is they who have to point out to middle class white America that Anglo-Saxonism is especially racist—but they see not their own reverse racism—presumably still wanting to primarily blame blondes for Jewish Hilter’s Nazism is which most top Nazism were brunette. Anyway so much for those “naïve” Midwesterners that just need more Eastern, uppity, presumptuous aired so that we will forever follow their know betterment of following their compromises.
But let us be frank here because this is no little matter. These supposedly liberal and progressive Air America types will pretty much criticize anyone provided it isn’t Israel or any Zionist motives within the United States.
They are willing to overlook the fact that the United States was manipulated in the Iraq war by covert operations of Israelis and NeoCons via the Pentagon, etc., with the help of mainstream media on the assumption that Israel is more important that is the real security needs of the United States and its people.
The fact is that NeoCon Artists in Washington D.C. think tanks and main stream media have used many Nazi propaganda tactics and strategies to manipulate the people of the United States. And for what—to support a theocracy that is diametrically opposed equality in the United States.
NeoCons and the silent majority on Israel are about destroying the American constitution and the left says little save allowing Israel and the mainstream media decide who will the election. Went is Air America going to tell Israelis that it is time to separate Church and State in “all” of the Middle East and give up their delusional and right-wing religions?

“destroying the American constitution”
It has not be altered one single bit actually.

Actually, Lionel was a hard pill to swallow. My wife made me change the station because of his nails-on-a-chalkboard voice. He also comes off as kind of a dick. Basically, he sounds exactly like a right wing a-hole only his message is progressive. It’s laughable that Air America kept this clown when there was perfectly good lefty talent out there. Next time Stacy leaves, they should put Randi’s show on.
Comment by BigJ — Thursday, September 11, 2008 @ 4:12 am
Randi sounds even worse than nails on a chalk board also only with the most obnoxious New York accent and “everything is a question” delivery style. She was without a dout the most annoying leftwingkook hate monger on Airhead America Radio. Talk about lipstick on a pig. This hate spewing bitch takes the cake.
And now moving on folks here is Obama doing his version of sabre rattling. I see he is getting tough on terrorist now that he has moved to the center ( flip flopped ) a bit more in a desperate effort to win. Problem is he keeps bashing Bush as if Bush was running for President again or something.

Let loose that Righteous Indignation!
It is as Dr. King said “the fierce urgency of now.”
Do you now where your local DemocratIC Party office is?
Have you been there?
Did you get a sign, sticker or button??
Be the change, write to your paper,
protest, be active, don’t just write on
Stacys message board!!!

gary- problem is many of us (correctly) view the Dems as willing partners in all of this, with some exceptions.
i know where Mike lumpkins office is, & volunteer, & gave $- NOT because he is a Democrat- in SPITE of it.
Signs, stickers, & buttons are fine, Id rather you suggest people dig deep & read up on our own history, & rather than blindly support the Dem party, either take it over or make it irrelevant…..for instance, today is the anniversry of the murderous overthrow of Allende, 7 there are a few articles in the paper about this.
the installation of a fascist dictator in Chile was a bi-partisan projet, tho the criminal nixon/kissenger administration recieve sole blame.
but I appreciate your enthusiasm, & commend you for giving a shit. thats a lot, these days…..

for instance, the role of the Clinton Adminstration - you know, our “peace president”- in creating the world spanning merc golem:
http://www.counterpunch.org/hallinan09102008.html
Never mind his cornicopea of weapons/munitions for Israel, or the high altitude wrecking of Central Europe.
Since this is considered the height of responsible governance by the Party apparat, and skepticism is a civic virtue, Ill not buy into this “party of change” crap.
“Cold War conflicts created a growth market, and, coupled with the Reagan Administration’s passion for privatization, mercenary organizations like the U.S. Military Professional Resources Inc. (MPRI) and DynCorp became players in Latin America and the Balkans conflict.
While Ronald Reagan’s and George W. Bush’s administrations generally get the credit for this privatization drive, as Tim Shorrock points out in his book, “Spies for Hire: The Secret World of Intelligence Outsourcing,” it was Bill Clinton who really brought private enterprise into the business of gathering intelligence and fighting wars.
According to Shorrock, Clinton “picked up the cudgel where the conservative Reagan left off,” and by the end of his last term, had cut 360,000 federal jobs, while spending on private contractors had jumped 44 percent over 1993.”

if all you wanna do is be seen ‘by men’ as concerned, you have your reward.
Calling Dems the problem is going to get you/us no where,
at the very least they (Obama for sure)are humans who WILL listen to their constinuents (sp?)
and can be moved, unlike the hypocrites in this admin, idealoges!
and Clinton was and is a DLC corporate dem, not a real friend, and
as you pointed out we can see the fruits of HIS labors.
We can end Blackwater, we must end war for profit or we will be reaped

We NEED change,

from Randi:
Their goals and ours are not related.
Theirs is to get another Neo Con into our White House to continue the cover up of the crimes committed.
(Hmmm, how about capturing Osama Bin Laden in OCTOBER? SURPRISE!! )
Ours is to expose it all and move ON with governing this great and resilient country.

You said that same thing about the mayors on Tuesday, Gabe. It’s not Randi that called them the Bush Crime Family…it was Mike Malloy, who’s a strange cat, but entertaining.
Comment by BigJ — Thursday, September 11, 2008 @ 12:26 pm
The American corporate media’s “hard on” for Sarah Palin is unbelievable. Wake up stupid American sheeple! She’s a hardcore conservative w/ very extreme right wing positions. Independent thought has been absent from this society for far too long.
Comment by Paul — Thursday, September 11, 2008 @ 1:56 pm
Not to worry, we will never forget 9/11, or the fact that Bush read “My Pet Goat” rather than immediately respond as needed and do his job, and we will also never forget that he broke the record for the most vacation days taken by a prez the first year in office and ignored numerous warnings that an attack was imminent. We will remember it happened on his watch!
As far as the above mentioned cities and their poverty rates, me thinks the GOP policies have increased the number of people in poverty, increased the number of jobs lost to companies outsourcing to other countries, and Detroit deserves their problems for producing gas guzzlers such as the Hummer, etc., and GM killed their own very viable electric car product (the EV-1). They did it to themselves. It wasn’t the mayor’s fault.

“or the fact that Bush read “My Pet Goat” rather than immediately respond as needed and do his job, ”
Thats ANOTHER thing I dont get abut You People. Given the absolutely OBVIOUS fact the man is a complete nitwit, dont you WANT him reading “Little Pet Goat”?. You’d rather this loon make SNAP DECISIONS? In a moment of War III CRISIS?
I wish the sorry creep read “Little Pet Goat” every goddam day.
Thats what Pelosi & Reid do, aint it?
But, carry on. These are friendly brickbats, you are DOING something. Its an experience. Have fun. Find a vacuum, & fill it.

This comment is to Vriendje. As far as Stacy Taylor’s whereabouts goes. I remember hearing him last week saying he was going to Detroit for vacation. And that he’ll be back on the air Monday of next week. I think Stacy’s in the Motor City. As far as his fill in Lionel goes, I kind of like him. He seems intelligent. Sure, I probably would of preferred Randi Rhodes. But Lionel ain’t bad. And anyways, I don’t think 1700 AM would ever air Randi Rhodes. Considering she works for Nova M. alongside my favorite “liberal”, Mike Malloy.

other reading is finding out how this loon got foisted on a willing McNuts & this certifiable Party suggests it was a collaboration between the cackling witchburners and no less a loon than Kristol himself.
It seems a pack of PNAC wingnuts took a right wing fantasy cruise up to Alaska, had lunch w/ the Gov, and thought they found a empty vessel they could fill that would suck in the rubes.
They seem to be right.
